🚨 🚨 🚨 🚨 PRR shows the city asked Blazers the questions we all have been wondering, but somehow none of these made it into the draft term sheet. So who decided to remove or dilute the City’s June negotiating demands—and what did the Blazers, the NBA, or political leadership say that caused it?

"construction work on the highway caps and much of the new street infrastructure, which was initially slated to begin as early as next year, is being pushed back by two or four years due to the lack of funding."
Why can't we fund the things that actually work and not the pipe dreams that can't read the room and the current state of public transit funding?🤦♂️
Oregon Rep. Rob Nosse is committed to supporting a fantasy ferry service in Portland during the legislative session while leaving @trimet.org and our existing public transit service to crumble and fail
Between this and the IBRP ballooning in cost while ODOT goes broke and cuts Safe Routes to School, why hasn't there been a total overhaul of OTC to tear the current system down to the studs and rebuild for a future without highway megaprojects?
The Portland project’s funding gap raises questions about whether it will proceed as planned. https://mrf.lu/2ZXPL

Banger report from @shaanthx.bsky.social on self-dealing from Oregon's Republican gov. hopeful. Sen. Christine Drazan registered a new consulting business in 2023, then a new nonprofit 3 weeks later, then paid her consulting biz $100k from the nonprofit. oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2026/08/04/h...
A great day to remember +30% of Oregon's carbon pollution comes from transportation, yet ODOT, Governor Kotek + the legislature are defunding transit while advancing multiple multi-billion dollar freeway expansions that will only make Oregon's air pollution and carbon emissions even worse #orpol
The climate crisis is accelerating. We’ve got a Mayor + some city councilors running cover for Zenith Energy. We’ve got a state legislature captured by corporate $ facilitating a data center build out for these energy sucking monsters. Let’s get serious, shall we?
Biked past Council member EPG at a booth during Sunday Parkways. She appeared to be getting an earful from constituents about the Blazers' demands of the city. Can't be fun to be one of the waffling conservative PBA caucus who feel like they need to do a billionaire's bidding.
People make arguments in favor of the electoral college like “it protects the interests of small states” and no it doesn’t. Oregon is a small state, but because we’re a reliable vote for the Democrat (and with a late primary too) our votes mean nothing.
this absolute scumbag www.oregonlive.com/wildfires/20...
We need better leaders. Glad that the city council and (belatedly) the county are standing up against this billionaire creep.
Senators Lieber and Rob Wagner who sponsored and championed this bill gave up all of the public's leverage before negotiations even began, roping in the Mayor (who does not have the authority to make promises without council) and County Chair (who does not have the authority without the full board)
high income taxes and a divisive political environment prevents basketball success? wow, the Knicks really won't ever win a title huh
if this is going to be the line then fuck these guys
Open letter to voters from 7 current and former Portland School Board members regarding the Multnomah County Chair election. Threaded below.
🤫 Oregon’s top 1 percent of earners actually pay a smaller share of their income in taxes than Oregon’s lowest 20 percent). We want to pass a millionaire tax in Oregon to end this inequality! Read more: https://bit.ly/4vpHaVw #taxtherich #millionairetax #taxinequality #oregon @itep @epi.org
The IBR’s “Tunnel Concept Assessment” falsely claims a costly casting basin is needed to fabricate immersed tunnel segments. Steel shell tunnel segments can be fabricated a several local shipyards. IBR also fraudulently inflated dredging & excavation by four million cubic yards.
the fraudulent pcef theft petitioners are doing a #stopthesteal which i suppose is on brand
If you want to cut your Portland tax bill, get PPB to fill the hundred+ empty positions already budgeted for and they’re not filling because they can get more overtime and pad their pre-retirement income so they get a bigger retirement that we pay for directly as pdx taxpayers
call it what it is: authoritarian election denial! www.wweek.com/news/city/20...
Every person this administration wrongly deported should be granted asylum and a path to citizenship. Won’t even begin to right wrongs like this. But it’s a place to start.
People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.

Another 🧵 with some very clear thinking on how this deal should go down. It's so clear that I'd like to think that our negotiators for the city already know all of this and are already headed in this same direction. And I'd like to think Dundon knows this too.
Dundon may be willing to take the deal to the edge. Portland should not try to beat him at brinkmanship. Here's what the city should do. 🧵
You want to know something topical about predatory lendingt? Blazers owner Tom Dundon got rich off of subprime car loans which are just as predatory as those mortgages. And now he's trying to steal public money for his arena upgrades & there are council members who want to take Dundon's side. 🤬🤦♂️💩
An entire industry designed to trick poor people out of what little money they had. I watched people lose everything. Meanwhile someone somewhere was getting unbelievably rich, disgustingly wealthy, at the expense of these folks who had so little. I don't know how a human being can do that. 5/🧵
Getting from Portland to Vancouver right now is fastest by train. We should make more train and less highway!
Some context regarding Moda Center renovations. The Trail Blazers $600 million request is larger than any recent/planned public contribution to an NBA/NHL arena renovation. It's not "market rate" or even reasonable. What Dundon is demanding is an outlier.
73% of Democrats and 48% of Independents support abolishing ICE. Hopefully just the first step towards widespread prosecution of people involved in ICE activities.
I know y'all mean congressmen Democrats, but with support like this, it's going to change rapidly
In Portland, the expanded space for ICE is at the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building on 3rd Ave downtown.
Over the past several months, ICE & DHS have carried out a secret campaign to expand ICE’s physical presence across the US with more than 150 leases & expansions taking place in nearly every state, disregarding government lease procurement procedures & hiding listings Gift link => archive.ph/brFKH
Every day @mayorkwilson.bsky.social seems to work harder to reinforce this conclusion. It would be great in November to come away with a City Council that is 7-5 against him on most things.
I have zero confidence in @mayorkwilson.bsky.social. His lack of respect towards council and Portland residents is on overdrive. Hope this ends his political career (and we don't get hosed by a billionaire) so that Portland can find a mayor who doesn't pull stunts like this.
One day we will live in a society where people are as upset about the sexual abuse reports from unhoused people living at Urban Alchemy as they are about decorum.
the strategy is becoming more clear ...
“It was a really disappointing offer that was not hard at all to turn thumbs down on and realize that there was not much seriousness on the other end to get a deal done,” Calabro said, “which is fine if you want to end the relationship. Well, that’s one way to do it, I suppose.” 🧐
