I used to think it was crazy that each Flock camera costs taxpayers $2,500/month! But now it all makes sense. These are valuable objects that may contain up to 2-3 lbs of copper and 1-2 grams of gold.

I've not taught for 3 years. The thing that united my traumatised kids, behavioural issues kids, neurodivergent kids, kids with special needs in my entire career wasn't that I couldn't hit them. IT WAS THAT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THEIR NEEDS AND HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL.
It is fucking wild to me that all this research on a novel disease assumed recovery was possible, and the absence of permanent effects until proven otherwise. It’s a novel disease, why would anyone assume anything.

We treat kids like shit in this country. We treat women and queer people like shit. We don’t provide social safety nets for families or people experiencing violence at home. Happening in an ableist society during a mass-disabling event. Why is anyone surprised that we are seeing low birth rates?
It can be a great approach to researching with communities who are discriminated against, but it takes a lot of consideration to implement in a way that doesn’t recreate or reinforce the power imbalances.
Co-production is actually very hard to do when initiated from within academia - especially if the funding comes from academic funds & sources. The systems & process are very constraining for doing co-production well, & the power asymmetries between academia & the community are very hard to disrupt.
