The point isn't to produce essays, it's to teach students how to think for fuck's sake. The minute you automate that, it's over. You might as well close the course. Which they're also doing. This is an attack on learning, and everyone is just shrugging.
Full of despair today. Massive lay offs in social sciences and humanities across the country, Burnham puts out a video saying 'AI can write an essay', and my university is busy integrating co-pilot into all staff and student computers. We are being told we're defunct and there's no resistance.

It is not the copy-editor's job to check every source, it's yours. Do the damn work

Interesting case study. A few things come to mind: 1) the inclusion of the journalist’s mobile number in a discussion forum several years previously in a different context raises questions of compatible purpose under Article 6(1)(a), particularly as the journalist wasn’t a journalist at the time.

One thing I would add to @tupped.bsky.social’s excellent piece here on workplace CCTV is the need to consider the “bells and whistles” of the system. Is it recording audio as well? Have you accidentally bought facial recognition tools into the bargain?

Many pleas to the primacy of "ethics" , especially in tech policy,are basically pleas for self regulation untrammeled by law for some of the most unethical corporations on the planet. Be careful what you ask for.
The blockade 'protests' look set to start again all thanks to Malachy Steenson, Chris Duffy and other bigots. These 'protests' have nothing to do with the cost of living/fuel crises. They're purely against what the bigots believe is 'replacement of the Irish by EU policies'. Don't be fooled - again.
FF and FG have placed too much emphasis on individuals making changes to improve emissions, while dawdling on large scale projects. We now have less offshore wind energy production than we did 20 years ago. It's time we stop going backwards, and fast track the country's reduction in emissions.
