Put my hand on a bison rubbing stone today. It’s been sitting here since it was dropped by a retreating glacier at the end of the last ice age. The sides are smoothed from generations of bison rubbing on it. Good to think about that now and then

I always feel so sad when authors post that they’ve failed or are giving up. And I get it. Truly, I do. But I often think of Mary Delaney, who my friend did her PhD on. Started making art in her 70s. Now she’s featured in museums and people do dissertations on her. Don’t give up!

Like Grandma Moses, Mary Granville Delany (1700-1788) bloomed in her 70s, when she embarked on her life’s work—creating 985 life-size botanical masterpieces now held by the British Museum. Some consider her the first mixed media collage artist because she employed paint, paper, and flower parts.
