We would be better off, honestly, asking if *text* is intelligent — as in, redefining intelligence to meet the *transmission* of meaning that text and language can achieve independently of authorship — than asking if a machine that produces text is intelligent, but maybe that’s just me.

Reminders: "Concentration camps" aren't the same as "extermination camps." Both were/are horrific. Most Nazi camps were *outside Germany*, away from the eyes of German citizens. Those trains? Were to, uh, deport the category of people whose lives were deemed unimportant. Never again is now.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

cancelling a "washington post" or "la times" subscription isn't about hurting their billionaire owners financially, it's about not paying for a product you no longer trust. the billionaire isn't the center of the story here, the reader is. if you can't trust the news organization, it's worthless.
