A really funny complaint about the Zohran discount grocery store idea is that non-poor people could use it when there’s a grocery store half a mile from my grocery store that has everything cost 20% more that rich people go to because they don’t want to shop with normal people.
stop normalizing this tucker carlson guy please
I’m packing my pulps to move to California. This is a daunting task. To keep myself moderately entertained I am going to post 4 random covers from each shelf I finish packing until I’m done.
anyway, if anyone has a lead on jobs for a science journalist/writer who has been a planetarium director (meaning I can talk to the public), please let me know. I am *awfully* broke.
Politico is owned by Axel Springer, a major right-wing media conglomerate, and that fact should be mentioned a lot more
This happens super often because papers don't pay and pr firms do. I can't tell you how many paper people I know that have been forced into pr.
There are 7 PR people for every journalist in the US. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...
That's what I was saying. I got into corporate communications and public relations explicitly because I could not find paying work as a journalist. One publication even tried to offer me a "job" as a music journalist where they would not pay me and also I'd have to pay for my own concert tickets.
King Ladislaus IV of Hungary was born #OnThisDay in AD 1262. He is often known as Ladislaus the Cuman due to his descent from the Cumans: a term for various nomadic Turkic groups who settled in the Carpathian Basin during the 12th and 13th centuries 1/2 #Medievalsky 🏺 #Archaeology
Can we talk about how millions of dollars get spent on annoying campaign ads that don't work, and then figure out how to get that money into something with ROI that actually helps people instead? Every election cycle, campaign spending goes up, and for what, exactly? 🧐 These are life-changing sums.
part of the reason the welfare state exists is because Britain almost ran out of healthy conscripts in two consecutive wars, and decided that the TB-and-malnutrition approach to society may be militarily disadvantageous still, I expect he feels they can do it all with drones and LLMs now
"we should build an army by creating a society no one would want to defend"
regular reminder to americans to read the wikipedia page of the german media company that bought politico, axel springer SE, which is probably the dominant force of rightwing propaganda in germany after ww2
Progressives didn’t get the big election night they wanted
Can confirm Was not connected to internet and lost a page of writing and was just confused. I thought we had solved this problem
The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.
Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.
A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?

Today marks one of the holiest days for Shia Muslims. More than 20 million people gather in Iraq every year for Arbaeen, yet it's one of the world's least-covered major events. Zeteo contributor Rida Ali explores the pilgrimage and why it challenges common perceptions of the Middle East.
my favorite feature of this site is absolutely no consequences for my opinions sucking fucking ass and me being 100% wrong about everything

Russia is denazifying Ukraine, by liberating the Donbas region.
There was a literal freezer truck on my corner filled with bodies. I learned what time to avoid going outside so I wouldn’t have to see the body bags carried out. Don’t let them deny what happened. Don’t let them deny how they failed all of us.
RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>
Maiden Castle, Dorchester. An Iron Age hillfort, largest in Europe, the size of 50 football pitches. Incredible views of the surrounding countryside at the top, sheep grazing happily, and even ruins of a Roman temple. We enjoyed exploring this ancient trail immensely.
