All this stuff is a threat to the dominant cultural hegemon because it fundamentally challenges the idea of normality. If we expand social norms to accommodate rather than destroy differences, it doesn't just obligate people to act, it also asks, are you where you are by luck of the draw?

The parallels are just very striking, you know? About a decade ago, we started to get people in the public eye coming out as trans, saying they finally had words for what they'd felt all their lives, and the backlash was hot on its heels. It started out with, "Well, you can't *all* be trans..."

The Great Impotence Myth? Scientists seek to determine whether erectile dysfunction is real or a social construct, and speculate that the older generation may be turning to pills simply because they're too lazy to google big jiggly butts any more. Channel 4 asks: how hard can it be?

i am a lot more sympathetic to 'press freedom' arguments when journalists show they mean it beyond '200 guys who work for billionaires should be able to do what they want with impunity fuck you'

In Star Trek people often complain that replicated food is not as good as naturally produced food, which is weird when replicators are presumably using the same technology as transporters, which can perfectly replicate Spock every time. But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,
