The intersection of this with AI targeting (like what appears to be responsible for hitting the girls' school in Iran) seems like it could be a problem.
Faine Greenwood@faineg.bsky.social · 5d agoI used to do some work on the ethical use of satellite and drone imagery for aid and disaster response, and it is genuinely hard to express in words what a dangerous, stupid thing Google is doing by making it easy to use GenAI to create faked satellite imagery:

What they don't tell you about the "put painters tape on the wall for your baby to play with and peel off" trick is that if successful, the baby will try to eat the tape. Yes, this was predictable, and is why the baby wanted to peel the tape in the first place. Live and learn!

Some Gold star family is going to end up fighting with the VA or their state so they can get proper survivors benefits so the Admin can have marginally better PR. Probably same for the WIA Soldiers and Sailors as well.
If an area has more demand for car parking than it has spaces, making it easier to travel to & from that area using public & active transport is not only cheaper, more equitable & more sustainable than adding/preserving parking spaces; it's also far more likely to actually fix the parking problem.
Unfortunately in many cities, this is late. Or worse, the cyclist it could have saved is.

To 'yes and' this, ill take the additional step that this prudence includes re-desigining our streetscapes to be safe, connected, and convenient to bike on. Anyone who argues that it's too big an ask to make the road network designed for bikes ignore the decades we've already done that for cars.
