I’ve seen in two culture /higher ed magazines recently the claim that the printing press engendered a crisis of authority at universities bc anyone could publish what they wanted and people could learn things without universities. This is not true.

I’ve been curious about the new Dante film since I first heard of it. This negative review has not dampened that interest, esp as the reviewer said “I was out the second I saw an ungloved Nick sifting through priceless Italian historical documents. The librarian watching him should have been fired.”
Alcuin refers to himself as a 'shrieking goose' in one of his letters, and I just think that's wonderful.
