#Rtveli, the Georgian grape harvest festival, is ongoing! 🍇 Did you know ancient Roman winemaking may originate in Georgia? Georgian wines have been fermented in ceramic vessels for thousands of years and may have inspired Roman techniques. (£) doi.org/10.15184/aqy... 🏺 #Archaeology

Making this as a little demo on regular correspondences for something, and I think this is very esthetic, so, take a look.

Was going to write a blog post on what we know about where Proto-Semitic may have been spoken, but here's one from ten years ago that does a great job (details of linguistic classification aside).
Spread of the Semitic languages | Daan Nijssen - Ancient History Blog
The Semitic languages have dominated the Near East since the dawn of recorded history. Where did these Semitic languages originate and how did they spread?

Ruus Al Jibal Arabic wotd خرفون ḫarafōn 'removing the dates from the raceme (a verbal noun)'
Ruus Al Jibal Arabic wotd شمروخ šamrūḫ* 'a stalk of the date palm raceme† (with or without dates on it)' ___________ * The Standard Arabic word is شُمْرُوخ šumrūḫ. † As far as I know, "raceme" is the correct term for the whole "bunch" of dates (called an عذق in Arabic).
If any of you is interested, here is the development of the Indo-Iranian primary and secondary palatals in Indo-Aryan, Iranian and Nuristani. I wasted too much time TikZing to not show this this to you all. (There are 2 languages called Kalasha, but only one Dameli with 2 distinct lexical strata.)

It seems a neat coincidence that the rhyming words 'soon' and 'noon' have drifted in their reference to time since Old English – sōna originally meant 'right now', but has since extended to the near future, while nōn was the ninth hour of the day (3 PM), but has pulled back to midday.
How dare you forbid vehicles in cities! We cannot have towns where the only vehicles will be for deliveries and services! This is an insane left-wing idea, a novelty against any tradition and it will kill the inner cities. Lex Iulia Municipalis from 45 BCE:
A cooling trickle of water in the gardens of The Alhambra at Granada clearly inspired this English garden at Borde Hill, Sussex

one of my favorite anecdotes is that "flour" and "flower" are not only homophones but a doublet (they used to be the same word). "the flower of" meaning the best of something can also be seen in "anthology" (Greek for "a picking of flowers"; calqued into Latin as florilegium, Dutch as bloemlezing)
fabric < originally "of fine fabric" = "finely made" flour < originally "the flower of", i.e., the best part of, the ground grain 😄

“Old Norse” and “Old Icelandic” are partially overlapping labels that cause confusion out of context. “Old Norse” *can* mean any Scandinavian language between ca. 700-1380, but specifically the form of that which is best attested is Old Icelandic ca. 1250, so it’s usually that form you’ll see cited.
On this day, 90 years ago, Spanish nationalists came to my village, caught my great-uncle – who was a minor –, brought him to the square of a nearby village, beat him, stoned him, shot him dead, then threw his corpse in a ditch. So forgive me if I spit in your praises to the state that sent them.
