Writer, mostly of novels. She/her. CatieMurphy.com for aaaaalllll the books. Please join my newsletter, too! https://BookHip.com/BZQWLZL

Learning over the last 3 years: 1. Publishers don't have your back if someone steals your work, as long as that someone has deep enough pockets. Turns out copyright stuff was bluffing all along. 2. Writers' organisations are susceptible to AI bullshit and bad faith actors. 3. Governments. Pfah!

If you want to hear two Matts talk about just about everything other than the book they're supposed to be talking about before doing their best to decipher said book, this is the podcast episode for you.

On this episode of DOES THIS COME IN CHROMIUM the great @matthewdowsmith.bsky.social and I visit the Doctor (Occult, that is) for a check-up that goes every way but expected. So open up and say ah while listening to us discuss 1994’s VERTIGO VISIONS: DOCTOR OCCULT! sites.libsyn.com/601360/site/...

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

All of this. If you want to teach kids to critique literature, that works just as well with something that's fun to read. Probably better. (This is one of my hot button topics but apparently it's one for all my friends too, so *gestures*)

I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?

At the bookstore, I waved over a guy with an astronaut tattoo and a pride necklace. "I'm not your demographic," he said. "My book is about a female biker gang in space rescuing a gay prince," I said. "The sequel is about a sex-positive sexbot." "In space?" "In space." "I AM your demographic!"

I'd actually never seen larimar before. It looks like the patterns of sunlight broken up by small waves that are cast across the bottom of a swimming pool. Gorgeous stuff.

Small personal win: Some of my @obamafoundation.bsky.social photos were featured in Architectural Record. It means a lot that the architects felt my images helped tell the story of this project. A few photos are in the digital feature, and I’m looking forward to seeing the August print edition

A screengrab from Architectural Record's website of the "The Obama Presidential Center Opens on Chicago's South Side" article featuring one of my dusk drone photos of the Obama Center.

A young Black woman with an American accent but who was Irish born (just like my son!) overheard us talking about Marvel Rivals on the train & we ended up chatting, eventually about what you'd do if thrown back a couple hundred years in time, as is perfectly natural for any chat with strangers.

I am sure you will agree that Ben Baldwin has given us another magnificent cover for Dan Mackmain’s latest adventure. Dan and Fin are off to Ireland – a trip I know many readers have been keen to see. The Green Man’s Debt will be published by Wizard’s Tower Press on 10th September 2026. #BookSky

Cover art by Ben Baldwin for The Green Man's Debt by Juliet E McKenna. A grey wolf with pale eyes stands in the shadows of a derelict building with a black and white tiled floor. The wolf is looking straight at you. Its snarl reveals blood on its teeth and jaw.

Catie's books are super fun. While this is a shifter romance, it's a bit more action packed that the general trend there (I've read bits because I'm on her patreon) And honestly, don't you need to own a book with a cover this fabulous?
