Use bikes to do what needs to be done as much as possible (groceries, kid to school, library, get Christmas trees etc.). PhD in Astronomy some years ago. Enjoy computer programming as a hobby and for work. Help researchers use computer clusters and cloud.
Kevin Wilson@kwilsonhfx.bsky.social · 4d agoWow does this resonate with me. I haven't done nearly as much organizing and protesting, but we try, cargo ebikes and heat pumps. Looking forwad to soon, hopefully, paying for 100%, renewable wind electricity. But it's not enough. Those with money and power are completely undoing this little effort.

Drill baby drill leads to burn baby burn. The root of the problem is not complicated. We humans must reduce our GHG emissions if we want a livable planet. I heard John Vaillant speak during my FCM trip to Edmonton at an Elbows Up for Climate event. Facing climate reality is not political. 💔

There’s a quiet culture change happening in Halifax. I think it’s most obvious at #KidicalMassHfx, where you can see “all the cool bikes,” but it’s also evident on an average Sunday afternoon at the pool. The culture of family cycling and cargo bikes is growing steadily and it’s wonderful to see!

Scrolling down #bikehfx, I see bsky.app/profile/harb... and imagine those 150 people in large metal boxes shaped like cars and how much space they would take up. Then scroll a little further and see 16,000 bike trips counted last week. Combined with seeing 20 cars jammed into Jubilee going no where.

While my son and I are biking on Connrose path someone biking turns from Coburg onto the path from the Wag direction. That kinda looks like Andy. I hear a deep exhale as he passes as if trying to calm himself. Then I remember my son and I both have "Mayor Bad Bikes Good" stickers on our helmets.
To summer camp, traffic is a bit worse than last year. Last year it often didn't pass the cross walk, this year it is backed up beyond for the second day in a row.
Our kid biked 15km to take in Canada Day events and I'm so proud of them. Having safe, separated bike lanes help kids and families get around, have fun and stay active. #BikeHFX
