A fun, if slightly disingenuous, way to describe the events of this afternoon is “I made my toddler so good at hide and seek that he got a criminal record before starting school”

it's like the chattering classes just get bored periodically - like with the utterly WhatsApp group-brained covid bollocks over the weekend - and decide they need to target some new defenceless group who've done nothing to deserve it beyond trying to find a way to exist more easily in the world

anecdotally, everyone I know who has managed to get an ADHD diagnosis - all of whom have had to scrape the money together to go privately because the waiting list is 18 years or some shit - have found the diagnosis and the meds generally life-changing. huge improvements in quality of life

can't stress enough this assault on neurodivergent people is fucking grim because of how difficult it is to get any kind of support if you're an adult. and that's not even including the hoops you have to jump through and frankly how western-centric it all is.

I asked her how she was able to pull all this together in less than 7 days. She told me "I don't try to join a burning village." Meaning she builds connections before they're needed, she shows up consistently for her community, day after day, so she's ready the day a spark catches.

I have been listening to my friend Shannon plan an event for evacuees from the Ontario wildfires. She's running it later this week for 3 days and over 900 people are coming. She's arranged events, drumming, beading, sports, childcare, food, donations. I am in awe.

in Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen sings "before you came into my life I missed you so bad", implying that the Canadian pop starlet doesn't experience time in a linear fashion. the subsequent line "and you should know that" implies she is frustrated with our limited mortal perception
