The lesson is not that Ingraham’s inconsistency is hypocritical. It’s that the original statement was completely meaningless in the first place. It contains no principle that would inform or constrain her future. She doesn’t actually mean what she says, ever. It‘s only ever Just Something To Say.

Joh Beccia owns Palantir stock, getting rich from mass surveillance. Voters are tired of politicians and lobbyists making excuses for corruption.

I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.
