I understand that I am not a medical provider and I do not save lives, but I do take notes by hand during advising appointments and then need to make them coherent in our advising software. I tend to find patterns through this process but it also can show me patterns over time in a student's file.

I was a little surprised by how much this bothered me, tbh. Not because I thought it was intentional or even human carelessness- it's a reminder that these algorithms work against difference, they work against outliers, they work against marginalia (literal & figurative). I am tired of being yelled at by parents. I understand and have much compassion for sending a child off to a place parents might not understand, but yelling at me about a process isn't going to fix anything. I am trying to help.

A colleague walked into our building together with me. I took to the stairs first and she said: look at you! bouncing up the stairs! My dude, I work really hard to be able to continually move my body. I'm not sure why dishing out a weird comment is required.

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?
