Here's to hope. All we've got left.

I get to have meetings with pearl clutching Indiana leaders about the dangers of 40 mph e-motorcycles (< 200 lb vehicles), but they won't talk about the dangers of 6,000 lb racing SUVs with no speed limiter and no requirement for special licensing or permits for use on public roads & neighborhoods.

It's difficult to believe that something so heavy can accelerate faster than some of the most extreme performance cars in the world.

had a great facetime call with our friend Sen. Mitch McConnell earlier today, he said “help me” (I think, audio was bad) and I said “you’re too close to your phone, pull it back and watch your little thumbnail screen and try to center yourself in it” but then the call disconnected he’s doing well!

image in phone wallpaper format made to look like a screenshot of a facetime call

the background is a detail of the hell section of Jan van Eyck’s The Crucifixion and Last Judgement diptych with a distorted Mitch McConnell face in front of it; in the lower right hand corner is a light gray vaguely phone wallpaper shape with my bluesky profile pic (my dorky little league baseball pic from the 1980s) superimposed on it so it appears that I facetimed Mitch McConnell and he was in hell

I thought putting on lipstick while driving was a cliche, but then tonight almost got smooshed by this cliche driver. If you can't keep your eyes on the road while driving across one of Indy's busiest Monon Trail crosswalks, you shouldn't have a license.

Needed a sag and transport vehicle for the weekend Ride Across Indiana. I do not recommend the plug in hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee. It drove alright. But the battery only lasted <20 miles in EV mode. Terrible sight lines. Carries less than a minivan. Why do people buy bloated SUVs?

Drunk guy and his drunk buddy stumble out of bar in Broad Ripple. Finds parking ticket on his car, because he parked in metered parking space right in front of said bar. Complains loudly about how the city takes his money again, in addition to the taxes he already pays. Drives drunkly home.

This is important for Indianapolis. We desperately need locally generated infrastructure funds to invest in, upgrade, & make our streets safer. Due to a bargain with the (anti city) state legislature, the funds will match state money. That state money comes from Indy in the first place.

An Indianapolis City-County Council committee voted 7-3 to recommend approval of a proposal that would increase vehicle registration-related taxes in Marion County. 🔗https://tinyurl.com/ynxrbpds

Was getting interviewed on Indy transportation and road safety topics (twice today, different issues) and thought, "Would they publish it if I said things are buggered at the state and federal level. We are unable to fix it at the local level with that much dysfunction."

A nasty anti trans scribble popped up on an Indy greenway sign. 5yo neice and I engaged in her first coverup graffiti. No photo because technically not legal. She thought it was super fun!

And yes, it gets worse. Having worked professionally and voluntarily to address climate change (and coming chaos), this kind of crap is really disheartening. Please vote, and register to vote if you're not. There's a whole army of bums that need to be shown the door.

Phasing out HFCs worldwide could avert up to 0.5°C of global warming by the end of the century, so naturally the Trump regime is delaying their planned phase out. 🎁🔗

If Indianapolis is really going for #VisionZero, reducing fatal and severe crashes, shouldn't we address dangerous motor vehicles: - Prohibiting dangerous modifications - high bumpers, ram bars (w/ enforcement) - Putting a higher wheel tax on oversized non-commercial SUVs and pickup trucks

The attacks on transit at the federal level are unbelievably bad for jobs access and mobility. Attacking transit is another way to force car-depencency, increase pollution, encourage sprawl, and increase costs for those with the least margin to handle that inflation.

I've been writing about federal transportation policy for a decade and even I am amazed at how many new ways the Trump administration is finding to defund transit, and how breathtakingly hard it is to keep up with. T4 has a great breakdown on the latest one: stalling apportionment from the OMB.
