A useful reminder that what the right calls “woke” today was just called “mainstream centrist American culture” fifty years ago.

I misread that as people collecting social welfare in the lobby of Arnotts, and after reading the story, I think that's somethibg we should organise. Fuck this guy.
Maybe people shouldn't be able to collect social welfare at the GPO, Arnotts lobbies. The company behind the Henry Street department store raised the idea with the man in charge of the regeneration of the city centre, returns show.
Everyone that invoked Nelson Mandela's name as an example of "bloodless independence" should be forced at gunpoint to read his autobiography, imho. "But as Oliver said at the time of the bombing, the armed struggle was imposed upon us by the violence of the apartheid regime."
Martin Luther King was much more successful than Malcolm X for example. Before that, there was no need for a bloody civil war in most countries that abolished slavery. Just votes. Independence can also be bloodless. Gandhi in India, Walesa in Poland, Mandela in South Africa. The list is long.
I think the thing about the El-Sayed clip is it’s the first time in awhile I’ve heard anyone with any level of authority tell someone that they shouldn’t be a bigot and they’re wrong for doing it
Feeling lucky today that my endorsement of the Muslim Brotherhood was still in the drafts folder.
Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996)
Albania's corrupt government secretly sold a popular nature preserve to Jared Kushner to be bulldozed for an exclusive resort, and Albanians responded by burning everything to the ground.
The Supreme Court burns to the ground in Albania, Parliament and the Department of Education has been stormed, the Prime Minister is in hiding and the country is effectively in the hands of the rebels. Albania rejects blatant corruption and their country being sold.
Fuck you if your bag of chips doesn't have a story on the back about why your founder decided to pursue a new approach to chips

This may be the favourite slide I have designed for our first year core module this year.
"We made you into dancing monkeys for our amusement, wtf more do you want?"
IMO, getting artists to get up and do a 10 minute jig for the techbros who are stealing their livelihoods is more demeaning than simply ignoring them.
oh you made the computer sound like a guy? it can summarize answers really fast? well life-giving liquid just falls out of the sky and a delicious tomato can just appear magically out of dirt. id say "but your thing is cool too" but id be lying. your thing is dumb as fuck compared to a tomato
There's a reason the people who are most excitedly pro-AI are also the people most firmly set on exploiting you.
AI, as a political project, is primarily focused on your devaluation. Hope this helps.
It's easy to make the Government out as the bad guys in these labour talks. Very easy. Incredibly easy. So easy that you'd think it would spark some introspection
I also cannot express how soft ball the setting was where this was admitted. It’s called “Cheeky Pint.” It’s set in a pub. They drink Guinness. It’s like getting killed by Paw Patrol
That $366 million Elon is spending to try and convince voters that Congress should stay Republican? It's more money than McCain's 2008 campaign spent. But it's also, relative to Musk's net worth, the same as a household at the median income spending $32.
The 2026 question: Which is more powerful, money or people?
Elon Musk has spent $366 million this election cycle. Philip Bump examines what that kind of money can buy in American politics.

Poll: Do You Support Strike Action Or Are You Suckling On The Barren Tit Of Capitalism In Hope You'll Get A Drop Of Sour Milk? https://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2026/10/13/poll-do-you-support-strike-action-or-are-you-suckling-on-the-barren-tit-of-capitalism-in-hope-youll-get-a-drop-of-sour-milk/
It's Strikemas Eve! Make sure to leave out milk and cookies for Jim Larkin tonight!
Chants of 'Don't protect the women, we can fight. We don't need your fascist shite' rang out in Glasgow tonight. As anti-fascists, women's rights groups and trade unionists protested against 'patriot platform' and their supporters pushing their racist agenda in the city. Things you love to see ✊
I want to make things fuelled by my imagination and challenged on my iterations to make better things. I don’t want to make things because some bot told me that it was a good idea.
I find the argument that you soon won't be able to avoid genAI in games utterly unconvincing it's predicated on the idea that genAI is, or will be, a shortcut to higher quality (rather than a form of corner cutting that remains present in the final product) and it ignores why people make stuff
Attack on Pearl Harbor raises questions about the Japanese Empire's commitment to peace in the Pacific
Political polarization breeds inferior criminals, and I’m against it.
I'm reminded of coming out of The Fifth Element years ago and hating it, because I'd gone in expecting a Bruce Willis action film and got... not that. Now it's one of my favourite films because I know what it was trying to do and how spectacularly it succeeded. I think Digger is of the same kind.
I can understand why a lot of people didn't like Digger, and I think a lot of that is because it's a very hard film to market, but my God, it is fantastic. I loved it from start to finish.
An interesting case study 👇
New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
