this is a problem. solidarity and mass movements often involve making common cause with all sorts of douchebags. but it's also the fact that these guys are just temporarily homeless republican operatives. giving them money and eyeballs is probably counterproductive

WOW. New announcement from Seattle CMs Strauss, Hollingsworth, and Foster saying they will fund universal school meals starting in the fall after all by using the general fund. Hard to see this as anything but a realization of the high political price they paid for their votes yesterday.

I grew up on Food Stamps, the stigma was fucking horrible. I have so much to say about this ghoulish piece of shit, Stitt and his desire to shame people. "making it so easy..." Fuck you dude. I'm vibrating with anger right now over this. Being poor is expensive, traumatizing, and anything but easy

In the survey, 29% of states identified narrowing eligibility policies as a potential risk and 11% saw a wholesale withdrawal from SNAP as a potential risk. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, said churches, food banks and other organizations would ensure that people are fed there. Stitt, the chair of the bipartisan National Governors Association, said he believes federal programs like SNAP are operated with “a lot of fraud and abuse.” He also suggested that the program had become too seamless, with cards that resemble credit cards allowing recipients to easily purchase groceries. **“Maybe it’s going back to the day where there was a little stigma attached and you had to actually go to a food bank and pick up commodity cheese and commodity groceries, and it had a little stigma so you were a little bit embarrassed,”** he told Stateline. “Maybe we should go back to a little bit of that instead of just making it so easy…”

A vendor was going car-to-car in my ferry line today for petition signatures to “repeal the income tax.” (WA does not have a conventional income tax, but a new law imposes a tax on 7-figure annual income.) I asked if I could sign one INCREASING millionaire taxes but he didn’t have one of those.
