This does seem like a big slap in the face for local democracy & community planning. If the data centre is taking space that could be used for used, this is a bad decision. Data centres don’t need to be in London, to serve London (there’s this thing called telecommunications & the internet…)

For years, Telegraph columnists told us climate breakdown is a hoax. Now they say: it's real, but it's too late to do anything about it, so let the bodies pile high (again). Just one long list of excuses not to reduce fossil fuel use. Such newspapers bear as much responsibility as the oil firms.

For some of us engineers, oh the joy of stumbling onto a place like this… Stuffed full of proper old machines, run by a proper old skool apprentice trained tech, one man band - wonderful! And that unmistakable smell, takes you straight back 😁 Amazing what you find tucked away in an old chicken shed!

This is what directly elected mayors does to our democracy. Winner takes all in single issue personality politics. A race to the bottom.
