I think a lot of people who remain in fandoms for children's media as adults fundamentally misunderstand what we're saying when we criticize something being "for kids" Yes, children's media can engage with serious, mature topics. But it has to treat them like it's your first time hearing about it.

When I worked at Blizzard I was slowly sliding into debt and when I talked to my manager about it I was pretty much told "oh well". They said something about economizing and I was like "dude, my rent is 70% of my paycheck?!?" Like there's no amount of financial management that solves that.

There's a spectrum that historical movies exist on from "commitment to accuracy, immerse yourself in a different time" to "translate these concepts for modern audiences." I admit to having a fascination with the immersion end of the spectrum, but The Odyssey is definitely on the translation end.
