A sample of the kind of stuff going up on Decayed Orbjt this Friday. I cleaned out the bins of mass markets I haven’t opened in literal years. Lots of stuff just getting put up as big lots of books I need out of my house. Nothing perfect, but great reading copies.
The 96th episode of GAME STUDIES STUDY BUDDIES finds some time for a rather big announcement about the show and its near future, but we mostly talk about technology, critical practice, death, and the nature of images with Roland Barthes' CAMERA LUCIDA: rangedtouch.com/2026/08/03/9...
GSSB was the first podcast I did with Ranged Touch! It's incredible to think how long we've been at it. And while I have enjoyed every minute, sometimes as you near episode 100 you think, "Maybe I could take a few months off and come back reading some.... slightly different books."

Being the finance lead for rascal the last year has been a gradually worsening job, only because I have to be the bearer of bad news each month as the global economy gets worse and worse. If you want Rascal to continue to exist for years to come, we need your support

I cut about 20 minutes of myself just talking about the status of theory in academia right now from tomorrow's GSSB, but Josh hits some of the same points I was making. I'm deeply mournful of the slow disappearance of rigorous theory, but also aware that the slapdash way it's done right now is rough
The new and exciting, never-before-seen McDonald's "Deep Fried Onion" is unlike anything you've imagined
15,000 years ago, in one of the the earliest settled communities in the world, a child collected fine clay from the slow-moving river by her home. She then committed an act familiar to all inveterate play-doh enthusiasts; rolling and and pinching the squishy clay into tiny round balls.
Weird podcast request: we're recording something about airplanes coming up, what's your favorite activity on an airplane?

I don’t talk about this a lot but I’m a fluent speaker of Elvish as demonstrated here.

if you've been enjoying The Prisoner on Criterion Channel, might i recommend Tsui Hark's first american feature Double Team starring JCVD and Dennis Rodman, the middle act of which is a loving homage to the show where Van Damme is trapped in Not The Village

when I saw the odyssey there was a southern hoss dad sitting near me who was clearly enjoying the fight scenes and sort of tuning out for the rest of but but when Odysseus finally got back to see Argos the man let out the most plaintive “weoow”

I've really become a Himesh Patel fan lately -- thought he was great in The Franchise; TENET rewatch revealed him as a standout; obviously one of the strongest parts of The Odyssey. Shout out to Himesh Patel.
