Well, we're fucked as a society. I just spent a chunk of a train journey listening to medical students discussing how much they use ChatGPT.
I am once again begging, praying, weeping for lists of written instructions rather than videos. I do not want to watch your two minute video in the hope of catching the two seconds where you whizz past what goddamn menu the thing is under. Write. It. Down.

Yes! PhD funding acquired for a fun project working with main group catalysts. The advert will follow in a few days, but anyone who has an interested candidate, please tell them to drop me a line for a chat at e.clark@gre.ac.uk and I'll happily answer their questions.
If anyone has a final year student interested in a PhD in main group chemistry (namely phosphacation based fun), please could you get them to contact me at e.clark@gre.ac.uk for a chat. It's one of those "need a name to put forward" things, you see. (UK only, I'm afraid)
📣I have a PhD position available in main group chem @uvic.ca. Project areas: shown⬇️ Start: 09/26, 01/27, or 04/27. Must have: completed/in-progress research-based MSc in MainGroup/Organomet/Inorg chem + strong academic record. Open globally. Email CV + cover letter: bit.ly/4rLSFon [Pls share]

Things you do not want to hear when you get to work: "The chiller failed and the X-ray tube shut down unexpectedly." AAAARGH. Thankfully, all is now well and working again, but I did not need the spike in stress, thank you very much.
PhD available in my group, in collaboration with colleagues in microbiology and computational chemistry - "Metals against antimicrobial resistance - Understanding how bismuth inhibits metallo-β-lactamase enzymes". I'm very excited for this project, please repost! #Chemsky

Dear @microsoft.com , Congratulations. You've broken one of your last remaining pieces of useful software. I've just spent a while lightly annotating a .pdf in Edge, something I've used for years, and couldn't save half my notes because the ~80 page document had suddenly ballooned to 1 GB in size!

Here's a puzzle for #chemsky - why is DIAD so much more stable than DEAD? It can't be steric, and I'd have thought isopropyl groups better for fragmentations and unzipping, not worse.

Help me, #chemsky, you're my only hope. Years ago, on the other place, some people posted gorgeous before-and-after pictures of actionoid organometallic crystals showing rapid radiation damage. Does anyone know where to find them so I can wow my students?
We are hiring PhD students in very different research areas! Please see two adverts below, and note that the second position is restricted to UK students only. Please re-post; interested candidates please contact me by email: www.findaphd.com/phds/project... www.findaphd.com/phds/project...

There's something off about this DNA sculpture in the local NHS research hospital but I can't quite put my right hand on it.
Plus from having six Americans 'round for a braai: Great craic, and a lovely afternoon. Minus from same: Why do I have so much booze left? Is this an attempt to drown me by overcatering?
My better third and I just made a baked ham which we preboiled in bochet (French black, spiced mead) and it was delicious. I mention this because I was surprised by how little the bochet really affected things. It provided a nice, lightly spiced crust, but no more. #chemistswhocook
