⚠️ AO3 is aware of the AO3.life copy website and is taking action. Please take care, fellow creators, and don’t fall for phishing scams from these assholes. Don’t engage if you’re a reader, don’t sign up, and don’t try to make takedown requests if you are a writer. ⚠️

I used to think it was the fanfiction itself that was undervalued in large swaths of fandom, but if there's anything the past few days have taught me, it's that people love fanfiction but cannot stand the real human people writing it.

consider all art u like a gift that someone took time to make and is sharing it because they want others to feel the joy they did and not “free candy”

one of my favorite moments of TNG is when Picard is immediately unable to contain his horse autism

How is it that it's still taboo for fanfic writers to take paid comms, but people collecting fanfic (against the writers' will) on gdrive are getting huge tips on kofi for their "work"?

been very busy with moving+getting the new house set up+enrolling in social clubs. i start horseback riding lessons tomorrow. i will probably get back to posting art, eventually. but i may also simply be too busy petting horses to care whether people online like me or like what i do. 🐎yeehaw.

people absolutely do not give fanfic writers the same amount of respect they do to fan artists. not that people always respect artists but i feel like it's even worse for writers

In general— speaking VERY broadly— people don’t show authors the same respect that they do for other mediums. Sure, some of it can be chalked up to the fact that most forms of art aren’t posted in sections, but expectations are way too high for something that is, in the end, a passion project.

It's interesting that AO3 is down for such a lengthy stretch during what's arguably the most consumption-oriented/extractive era in fanfic's history. People dumping thousands of fics on gdrive are being hailed as heroes, drowning out fic writers saying, I didn't consent to be *republished* there.

i love this actually

while ao3 is down can i interest you in 100k words of unfinished draft with characters you don't know 🤲

going to look at a horse on Saturday 👀👀👀👀👀

AO3 is down, which means we’re all getting lots and lots writing done… right??? If you just finished a fic and can’t wait to share, you can always publish on Ellipsus to a Reader page!

Reader links include comments and props so you don’t have to miss out on feedback! And when AO3 is back up, use our Post to AO3 feature to get your story up right away 😌
