I wonder how much money this city could make if they actually ticketed drivers who were using their phones.

Lots going on in the early evening across the Northwest. Gravity waves, wind shifts and black smoke - a clear sign that the Old Trails Fire is burning structures.
All winds lead to Indiana today. And a few to Ohio, if we must. (Non-scientists: the blue lines are "streamlines," essentially what you'd get if you played connect-the-dots with wind directions all over the map. Really helpful for finding circulations and fronts.)
UEFA spokesperson Dietmar Fumm said to reporters "This decision effectively signals that Gianni Infantino is an enemy of world football". tl;dr: FIFA "foe" - Fumm
Searching through papers from 1967 for a thing I'm working on and I came across this incredible explanation for homosexuality; plastic glue fumes.
Just a little bit of wildfire smoke aloft in Bloomington today, and it has seemed to get better as the day went on -- see that milky-looking band sort of sliding south. (For the nerds, today it never seemed to show up well in the "pure" visible bands, but this True Color RGB helped.)
Trying to reserve a room for something this summer. “Oh, that room has no furniture.” “Oh, that one has no projector.” “Oh, that one…”
On the academic side of the university, we are being hammered with deadlines and expectations for making course materials accessible. And on the internal side, websites have this. 😕
82°F at Bloomington, 79 at Terre Haute. Compare 90 in Louisville, and 91 in Evansville. This band of clouds has been a savior for our comfort level today (and, well, an annoyance for forecasters).
I repeat myself, but I really wish Awful Announcing had an industry news feed that didn't include "Shit this bozo in New York said today" But then the name of the website is awful announcing and I guess that's the point.
i can tell which of you are not raising toddlers because you are actively engaging with Dan Orlovsky's Life Opinions rather than going "wow that's so neat bud"
Sneezed right in the middle of brushing my teeth, how are you this morning
Both the storm near Rockville (headed closer to us) and the one now moving toward Vincennes have, at least once, had tornado warnings on them. But not often enough for me to say a lot. If either the Rockville or Cloverdale storm strengthens toward that level, I'll write, but otherwise, probably not.
Rumbles of thunder, but the first round of the strongest storms have slid east of us. Let's watch this big "blob" near Paris, IL as it comes southeast and see if it can clip us.
Switched to a view with county lines to get a better idea of distance. Rain to start before 8, but still thinking that's the approx arrival time of any storms, whatever form they might be in. The lowest-intensity colors are probably not reaching the ground (nerds: this is composite, not base, refl.)
A stormy evening is inbound to southern Indiana. Curious to see how far west these storms build, and need to watch how they congeal into a very strong squall line/bow echo. Seems like an arrival close to/after 8 p.m., so enjoy a normal dinner but maybe get the dessert to go.
Upgraded the Compaq 7232 today (a Pentium 120 MHz, from 1996) to an operating system it can be proud of. Gonna put that 40 *megabytes* of RAM to use.
I just saw a reel of a young man doing a thing called “What’s on Grandpa’s Turntable” - & he reviewed the album the Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails. I’m just going to lay here and turn into dust now.
Smoke from these western fires, combined with those in Ontario and Minnesota, will be making the skies across much of eastern North America very hazy in the next few days. Smoke-related air quality will mostly be ok in the east.
Unfortunately, and as anticipated, yesterday's widespread lightning-following-heat event amid severe drought has sparked a large number of additional wildfires, expanding existing outbreak across OR, WA, & BC. Numerous heat signatures & large smoke plumes are evident. #ORwx #WAwx
“No odyssey spoilers!” Brother it’s been three thousand years
After a week of mid-90 temperatures (35 C) and mid-70 dewpoints, I gotta admit this feels amazing.
No offense meant toward to OP, they didn’t create the figure. It is, in my opinion, a great candidate for Terrible Maps.
feels like I'm being soft-gaslit with the idea that it was uncommon to have a VHS video camera by the late 90s there was a whole show hosted by Bob Saget where you physically mailed in your funny home video tapes
Started the travel day by making a pilot laugh with a deadpan “Oh, well every seat moves the same speed” so this is going to be a good trip home. CAE 🛩️ ATL 🥪✈️ IND 🚌 BMG.
Thinking about people who post "oh people in red states deserve what they get" and "well they should just move" and "let them fend for themselves." You are part of the problem. So many kids & students in places like these, who deserve a shot at a good education & could grow up to be change makers.
A beautiful metaphor for America here at Glacier National Park: a bunch of people standing under a melting glacier that could collapse onto them at any moment despite all the signs warning them.
