Oh aye, wildlife on British coinage "is a denial of history", is it now?

So many baby books end with a mirror for the baby to look at themselves. I believe we should bring this innovation to literary novels.
I have to say, it was kind of terrifying sending Think, Write, Edit, Romance to people I respect as romance writers/teachers of writing, in case they were like "mate, seriously?" and then I would have had to crawl away and hide behind the sofa, BUT NO. Here's Alexandra Vasti!
Mehdi Hasan is citing this piece as evidence that the British media is “broken”, but that’s not what it is: this is more like operating at peak efficiency. They’ve shown they can enforce the outcomes they want by blocking the entire pipeline tight with shit, so that nothing else can get through.
Not for the first time, I’d ask: what does it mean, if the press keep running campaigns claiming that country’s most horrific racists and bigots are the Green Party, the Labour left, Amnesty International, Stonewall, the police (I know) and Gary Lineker? Look around you. Does that feel right?

This needs to stop. It all needs to stop.
The world the tech bros are building. A Virginia data center ran backup diesel generators full blast for 24 hours, creating a giant cloud of toxic smoke that choked its human neighbors. The government claimed there was nothing they could do. www.gadgetreview.com/virginia-dat...
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260: Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.
Imagine the absolute brain rot you must be experiencing to know that you are a guest of honour at a convention which celebrates SFFH authors and fiction, and keeping it under your hat until only a day or two beforehand that you've gone all-in on making AI "movies". And to think that will go down ok
I'm so upset not to be at FantasyCon because the complete nuisance I would have made of myself, Peter F Hamilton wouldn't go anywhere all weekend without me heckling and booing. I would absolutely use the power of autism to give zero fucks if I'm upsetting him.
We are all seeing how just a few months of outsourcing your thinking to AI can wreck your brain. The wealthiest people have outsourced everything to the people around them for YEARS.
We've lived for so long with this mythology that sure, the wealthy can be cruel. But at least the cruelty has a point. Profit! I'd like us to open our hearts to other possibilities. Power doesn't just corrupt! It can also breed truly reality-distorting levels of incompetence.

Froglife staff member Darren recently popped outside to put the recycling out, only to discover this handsome chap hiding underneath the bin! This beautiful great crested newt had found himself a cosy little hiding spot!
The Long Neolithic lives as call to mystery, call to wonder. Whether we respond to those calls as archaeologists, ley hunters or stone pilgrims – we respond with stories. The Long Neolithic tithes in narrative. With typology or folklore, we all pay our dues. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

I want to see empty exhibits in British museums, that contain only the story about what they once contained, and why they had to be sent home. The space would be no less profound for me www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The colonial lie at the heart of Africa’s homophobic 'culture war'
The notion that queerness is "un-African" is one of Britain's most successful lies, and most enduring exports

It's Harvest Festival today. Part of me feels I would enjoy going and having a rousing attack on We Plough the Fields and Scatter, which is completely the wrong key for me but one day I will defeat. The other part of me is very conscious it is raining and I want to sit by the fire and read.
cupped hands holding water, rain arriving in a soft grey Latin to bless the fern, the thorn, the sleeping seed, hawthorn, bent by a wind yet in blossom, white against the weather, and beauty is a kind of stubbornness, a small bright yes said into the whole dark world.
I think it's the exhaustion that has absolutely slayed me. I feel as if I've been sleepwalking for three years. It's getting better, but it's slow and it's hard to remember sometimes that it's okay to feel like this, and give myself some grace.
If we are lucky enough to live full lives and form meaningful relationships, chances are, we will also experience loss, and with it, grief. As common as grief is, it's also mysterious. https://to.pbs.org/4zogDtq
