I think folks advocating for the Moda Center renovation are probably (maybe?) not grappling with opportunity cost, and what we won't be able to do if we fully fund it -- and what we could do if we negotiated hard to fund less
E-bikes continue to be the undisputed most revolutionary technology/energy/mobility/time-saving/health innovation of the 21st century so far, but since the primary competition spends $200 billion a year on advertising, it's still all word-of-mouth.
Michelle Magnusson@michellemagnusson.bsky.social · 9h agoPedal assist e-bikes. It’s real hot in Oklahoma and I ride with 1-3 kids. Riding a pedal-only bike for my daily trips is pleasant for 2 months out of the year, ebike extends that to essentially 12. It replaces a minimum of 6 trips per day.

Ooooh I was trying to think of a good answer and remembered that I make a pork stir fry with pineapple in it. It’s also ground pork. And I use the Soy Vey Island Teriyaki sauce in it.

I think this is what frustrates me most. Portland business folks love to scream about how bad the city is at managing the budget. Here the city councilors are really clearly asking for the information they need to make a good fiscal decision, and getting yelled at for it.

Lots of shitting on Portland and calling for publicly-funded renovations from the same people who will undoubtedly complain about budget mismanagement next year.
This is a really smart amendment being proposed by @councilormorillo.bsky.social - there needs to be a process to understand what the money will be used for and analyze real alternative scenarios.

I think about all the lakes and rivers and waterways in cities that used to be running jokes about toxic sludge and now are swimmable. Also we did kind of fix the whole ozone layer situation. Plus way fewer people smoke cigarettes!

State officials received 97(!!) complaints from voters who felt lied to or deceived by the signature gathering effort. Officials say that’s the most complaints they’ve seen on a single petition since adopting a record-keeping system 7 years ago. And PPA still failed to gather enough signatures.

Next up: Vice Chair Green and I have invited @portlandneighborswelcome.org and their partners to tell us about a single-stair design competition they recently organized. The competition is part of a broader initiative focused on mid-rise housing development and single-stair building code changes.
The orange light coming through the windows has a whole body effect for me. I’m not sure if it’s tied to the wildfires in 2020, when we couldn’t go outside for weeks, or if there’s something fundamental being triggered in my brain. All I can think about is the people losing everything right now.

When I last posted about this I was told that degrees like religious studies wouldn’t be included because they teach skills like close reading, writing, and critical thinking. I was not so trusting given the antipathy toward the humanities. This is horrifying.

My dad & stepmom, very fancy NYers, have been in Portland the last few days and they can’t believe anybody says anything bad about us because it’s such a beautiful city with such good food.
I got my dog some balls and a frisbee and he is acting like it’s his birthday x1 million. He learned about balls and frisbees at the dog park from stealing toys from his dog friends, and now he’s really deep in the normal dog subculture.

As a child I played soccer, field hockey, basketball, softball, and lacrosse. I also danced and did gymnastics and was a coxswain in college. My sister was a swimmer. I want every girl to have the chance to do things she loves, build confidence, and be part of a team. Every. Girl.
Think about the ignorance and hatred it would take to draft and/or support a bill like this. It is absolutely disgusting that legislators are spending time and energy on this. Trans girls should be allowed to play sports and no girls should be subjected to these horrific inspections.

I can’t believe centennial mills is on fire! We saw the flames and smoke when we were leaving downtown, and I knew immediately what building it was.
