Voter turnout surges in Tennessee after Black-majority district is erased

High Democratic turnout for House primaries in Shelby County, which includes Memphis, is the latest sign that redistricting may be energizing Black Southern voters.

it's always odd when "you should expose yourself to more diverse ideas" always means a certain kind of conservatism instead of like, Indigenous art, new fusion foods, math paradoxes, or the Dvorak keyboard layout

All of these cases are basically litmus tests for any Dem nominee. Are immigrants Americans? Do trans Americans deserve human rights? Are corporations superhumans who get to spend endlessly on elections to put whoever they want into power? These are simple questions with simple answers.

tired of the "#1 dad" nonsense. if you're a dad, stop treating it like a joke and post your actual national dad ranking. i'm # 492,018, which is actually really high up there, but more importantly it lets me enter ranked dad lobbies where i can get matched up for fistfights with dads of my caliber

If you watch the Obama Library, the World Cup, and the Knicks parade this afternoon -- and nothing else -- you can actually see the America we're supposed to be at age 250

If you wanted people to be less hostile to "AI" then you should have had a different group of liars trying to push it than the ones behind the metaverse, crypto, driverless cars, NFTs etc. "Sorry but we're only so gullible!"

All these right wingers who converted to Catholicism in adulthood were just shopping around for an ideology that justified their pre-existing instincts and prejudices. If you convince them that Catholicism means peace and charity they'll just drop it and keep shopping.

A lot of messaging from politicians right now assumes you are dumb, mean, selfish, gullible, and racist, with the memory of a goldfish, and that does not feel so good

@taniel.bsky.social I know you don't live/die by polling at Bolts, but wondering if your team or anyone has seen any actual polling on the SAVE America Act. I keep seeing this "80% approval!" but it's either White House or Heritage accounts purporting that. Feels like BS, for obvious reasons.

One more comment on the Post debacle: this hurts journalism broadly. Good journalists will go do something else. The rest will be fighting for fewer jobs and everyone will earn less. Fewer people will take up the career. The damage done is to the ecosystem, as well as the paper.

There's been a lot of discussion about the echoes of the civil rights movement in the protests today, with people obviously drawing comparisons between the strategies, tactics and coalitions that were vital then and are still vital now. But this post has me thinking about a different echo ...

I suspect right now Stephen Miller and the other nazis are meeting to discuss how a place not as “nice" or "peaceful” as Minnesota will provide better oxygen for their lies and goals of martial law.

I envy people who have the ability to separate themselves from what's going on every day from what they need to accomplish every day. My brain just gets stuck in the infinite loop of insanity with no means of escape other than to shut it all down

So on Epstein, the Democratic position should be "Trump should resign." If you are a Democratic elected, practice saying "We demand the president's resignation" in front of a mirror as many times as it takes until the dry-heaving that comes from having a phobia about actually doing politics passes.
