People need something to strive for, something to work on, a windmill at which to tilt. These guys would rather work towards destroying all of civilization and rebuilding it from scratch than giving their money away and planting a garden

it’s clear from both public statements and leaked private conversations that a majority of our wealthiest tech billionaires are fundamentally millenarians who believe the apocalypse is just around the corner and they intend and expect to be the few who survive it

The sole and entire reason evangelicals oppose abortion is because the IRS revoked Bob Jones University's tax-exempt status because they refused to racially integrate. You say this and people look at you like you're nuts!

Trump: It's not working! Why don't they love the fair? How do I make the crowds cheer? Oracle of DC: If you test your strength against the heat with a very long speech, the nation will celebrate harder than they ever have. They will party in the streets. No one will ever forget the night.

today is happening just once and it is READY FOR YOU with mystery and adventure and glittering love hidden around every corner. it will be here and gone before you know. TIME TO TROT OUT THERE AND MEET IT

the democratic rank and file is being arrested for posting newspaper articles and getting 50 year sentences for distributing zines and democratic leadership is more concerned with their friends getting primaried than any of it

What remains one of the best life hacks I’ve ever learned: at any chain that has a phone number-based rewards system needed for discounts (CVS, Duane Reade, etc.), simply put in the local area code followed by 867-5309. There is always already an account. You will always get the discount.

I think you could make a case that Active Directory is the most consequential software ever written and I wouldn't feel confident trying to argue against it. On the one hand, the Linux kernel runs on basically every device that doesn't have someone sitting in front of it. On the other hand, NTLM

I don't think it's capitalism; I think the problem is that everyone accepts the premise that "some people don't count" (with everyone having different ideas of who those people are). Nothing really gets fixed until everyone matters, until every wasted life is considered an unacceptable tragedy

I’m not saying capitalism is the only problem but I am saying the global capitalist agenda is a central pillar of our problems & I’m tired of people acting like we can solve our problems without facing this. I don’t think unilateral adherence to other economic societal systems is the solution either

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.

The Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin asks his dad to come play in the snow with him. His dad initially says no, because he has to work. Then, angry at himself, his Dad goes out to build a snowman with Calvin. As the Dad works into the night to make up for it, we see Calvin’s mum lifting him up to give one of the few, if only, kisses he ever gives his dad in the Calvin and Hobbes run. His dad is content. It’s a textless comic, and it’s lovely.
