The thing that really grinds my gears about this is the dishonesty. The biggest implication of this guidance is that trans people will have to live their lives very differently. But they are entirely absent from this framing. You'd be forgiven for thinking this didn't affect them at all.

It might be canny short term politics, but it’s a horrible message that validates the culture messaging of the climate deniers

if you find yourself saying something along the lines of "i'm a socialist, but i hate trans people, net zero, workers' rights, workers' control of the economy, public healthcare, cash transfers to the poor, and high levels of income tax on the middle class" then you are not a socialist happy to help
This is, imo, absolutely the consequence of politicians, media figures and others being actively unwilling to condemn this behaviour

You can make the case from a personal perspective that Sturgeon is maybe being a bit harsh on what was her extremely loyal deputy but from a policy perspective her analysis does show she is still sharper than 90% of the commentariat when it comes to understanding the Scottish political landscape

Social liberalism is a weak spot, though thus far Burnham's comms strategy seems well equipped to neuter it. More and more, I think climate is going to be an issue for this government, specifically around comms.

RDCK98@comradekenobi.bsky.social · 3d agoI love a lot of the lore in Fire & Blood etc but I do feel that the Targaryens have fundamentally and irreversibly shifted from "evil bloodmagic overlords with a few good apples" to "run of the mill nobles who also have/had dragons and magic, with a few bad apples" to the detriment of the setting

There really is something beautiful about the Labour Party in Westminster essentially having a bloodless coup and transition of power to hand over control of the literal PM and a huge majority, then Scottish Labour fighting like rats in a sack over who gets to be in charge of managed decline next
