I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

The research, though, is mixed at best about whether attaching harsher consequences to standardized tests actually results in better performance. And the decline in American reading goes deeper than the ability to pass a standardized test. Just 16 percent of Americans read for fun, according to a 2023 study, down from 28 percent in 2004. Only 41 percent of children under 4 are frequently read to, down 23 points since 2012. "I think there's an important distinction between whether students are able to read and whether they're willing to read," says Jonathan Becker, a scholar of education policy at Virginia Commonwealth University. "If we want our students to be able to answer questions about a short reading passage, we're going to have them read lots of short reading passages. There's no real incentive on the tests or in a lot of the standards to have kids read whole books."

the odyssey discourse is a beautiful perfect window into right wing culture war psychosis. they went from hysterial racist mania over a character that’s on screen for 5 minutes to claiming there’s a massive conspiracy to fake ticket sales. this is just what they do for everything now. they’re insane

BREAKING: The Odyssey is FAKING ticket sales by buying up theaters/seats (Fraud) to make the movie look like a success (already $400 million in the hole) moviegoers are reporting having to take terrible seats (because full) but when they show up the theaters are mostly empty.

Here is Tom Steyer personally supporting high school trans athlete AB Hernandez. I don't think I've ever seen a candidate as brave as Tom Steyer in his explicit support for trans folks. It says a lot that it took a self funded billionaire not dependent on donors to do it.
