She wanted more fossil fuel subsidies and he delivered billions more. She wanted publicly funded carbon capture, and now taxpayers will be paying for that, too. Either he's appeasing, or he's showing us who he really is & that Values was a big fat dull volume of lies. I'm betting the latter. 5/

Smith wanted a new pipeline. He okayed it. She wanted taxpayers to pay for it even though he promised it would only happen with private proponents, & then he okayed taxpayers funding 90% of it. Still looks like 100% appeasement. Unless he loves fossil fuel oligarchs just as much as she does. 4/

Smith wanted an exemption from federal clean electricity regulations, and he gave her that, too. Considering the first nail in the coffin of Trudeau's signature carbon tax was giving Atlantic provinces an exception, the implications are obvious. Clean electricity's undermined coast to coast. 3/

Smith wanted to end the possibility of an emissions cap, and Carney dutifully guaranteed there won't be an emissions cap. No 3d chess move there. No emissions cap means no emissions cap. You can't remotely frame it as good climate news or "enough rope for Smith to hang herself with." 2/

Carney's claimed a new pipeline isn't about appeasing separatists. His supporters often claim he's only play acting as big oil's guy to somehow stymie or "call the bluff of" perpetual oil shills like Danielle Smith. But it looks like appeasement, sounds like appeasement & walks like appeasement. 1/
