I was very nervous about mine but it went great and now I know how the little things I was worrying about actually work. Which is good because I am on 5 year intervals and my next is in 2 years. Drinking my prep liquid through a straw helps. The nap is fantastic.
Well, I am of colonoscopy age now and I got my first-ever one yesterday. The prep wasn't fun but not as awful as I'd imagined. My appt was at 6am on Monday, I was home just after 7am. There's no recovery except catching up on the sleep you missed. So, if you need a nudge to get yours, this is it!
Wang Yibo is 29 today?? Yibo? 29?? Anyways, happy birthday birthdayboy!! I hope you are where you want to be doing what you want to do, today and in general💚💚
Wow they didn't even explain all the layers of humor going on with Wang Qinian and Wang Furen's daughter being named 王霸 Wang Bà, and repeatedly passing Fan Xian an egg to hold. It's a homophone for wangbadan, bastard or sonofabitch. Also 霸 means arrogant or tyrant so it's a hell of a name.

We started Joy of Life season 2. Those fuckers, cooking vagabond chicken that way! Also I shrieked with joy at Gao Lu as Madame Wang.
Hey folks! I'm going to have a little medical downtime in early September (cataract surgery) so I'm taking advantage of that enforced rest to offer 4 writing mentoring sessions at $750/each.
I really need to go to an orchestral Undertale score concert, but until then I'm watching this very good amateur orchestra do it and have a GREAT time. youtu.be/b_mf-mSWzL8

If you _have_ seen PHM already, because the comments are spoilery in the most gorgeous, sweet way, THIS is brilliant. The whole soundtrack, playing over a slightly animated image of Rocky asleep in the tunnel, so you can watch while you listen. youtu.be/afEsGG1O2m8?...

@tuxkate.bsky.social just tried to tell me that anhydrous water is the opposite of "wet water," a phrase I had said by mistake while talking about Jiniret playing in the bathroom sink. me: This is payback for how many times I've talked about anhydrous ammonia in the past week, isn't it?

I agree with this, and I think it typifies the tendency to get mad when all the possible solutions are imperfect and yet we still have to choose one. people want there to be one right solution with no downsides, and get weirdly furious when that doesn't exist.
I think it’s hard to argue either that lockdowns were bad policy or that learning loss wasn’t real. We just have a society that makes no allowances for emergencies and affords no chance of making up. A lot of people are very mad about the effects of that without having any inclination to change it.
Look, I'm busy fighting chronic pain and depression here. I'll make this quick: -I don't use GenAI because I actually love writing. -It's built on theft. -It's an environmental disaster. -It's constructed by corpos to addict and disable you. -My younger self would've been addicted to it.
Kate, to their parents: so we just listened to "There Will Come Soft Rains" over breakfast-- Me, to myself: ...because we love pain....
Happy "There Will Come Soft Rains" day. The dog does. So does the house. I have adored this story since it was set decades in the future. www.tumblr.com/dsudis/82401...

A follow-up to the Spokane thread: a little closer to (my) home, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs are getting close to their fundraising goal, but they're not there yet! The reservation has been affected by two of Oregon's (historically terrible) fires this season:

this is really, really bad, and Spokane is ... not exactly on the national radar. I know there are infinite people and places that need help, and everyone's resources are finite, but some options if you are so inclined:

PHM fandom is wonderfully cursed. Canon-typical autocannibalism is a superb fic tag, and just said "no, don't hotbox the Blip-A!,"
which is kinda letting midcentury American cities/government off the hook: most cities with streetcars were quite eager to replace them with busses because they were affirmatively trying to improve car throughput and most streetcars shared lanes with cars /
The idea that there might be hard things that are necessary is just 100% not acceptable to us as a culture. We are dead set against the idea of opportunity costs - that in order to do one thing you might have to refrain from doing something else - because we always think there's a Secret Trick

I talk a good game about compassion, even for people I care about who reactivate my shame. Let me just say that I _am_ angry as hell. Today, the reactivated shame is so bad I can't engage with a bunch of my friends on a fandom topic I care deeply about, because this is already hurting too much.
A loved one's judgmental statements, made into internalized monologue, are following me around like my shadow and keeping me frozen or making certain cyclical home care tasks miserable for me. I have caused this in other people before, and I do my best to no longer spread it. Core value.
That was really sad and really cathartic and now i get to read horny stories written by my friends about it: fandom is beautiful.
