Fan of too many video games, tinkering with technology, and building or painting tiny plastic things. Sometimes I moderate discord servers.

Everyones talking about DLSS5 and i'm just here hoping the 40 series lasts ten years because I thought I overpaid for my 4090 and its twice as bad now.

Kind of an awkward PSA because I've had some artist mutuals recommend these sites/tools, but "ai image detection" tools are snake oil, and I feel like nobody bothered to scrutinize them. So I opened photoshop cs6, drew a smiley face, and uploaded it to the "accurate" detector:

a digital illustration of a smiley face (3 lines total) resulting in a 53.7% ai likelihood evaluation

Since we’re already talking about it, I might as well let the cat out of the bag. I’ve been thinking about doing another Anime Lockdown, but I’m not sure we’d get enough panelists to do even a half day. Last time I had to shorten the schedule due to lack of submissions.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the problems with modern computers lately. The hardware is better than ever but the problem is the software. Our devices have become time vampires, designed to capture our attention, often at the expense of our mental health.

Alt: a man sits at a desk in front of a computer screen. He’s Colin, the energy vampire from What We Do In the Shadows, a vampire who doesn’t drink blood, but just sucks the will to live from people.

Publisher bizdev people at events like GDC and Dice trying to sign "the next balatro" should realize that, statistically, the developer of "the next Balatro" you need to be talking to isn't at GDC or Dice talking to bizdev guys seeking 2m+ in funding

does anyone else do the thing where if you are not explicitly invited to do a thing by your friends you think you're not allowed to do it until you are specifically invited bc your brain sucks

A person is smart. People are stupid. If bad thing happens, someone steps up and fixes it, people think they are a hero. If someone does a thing, spends a lot of money to prevent bad thing and successfully prevents it - in the eyes of the public they just pissed away a lot of money for 'no' reason

DAMMIT NPR. I spent nine months upgrading over TEN THOUSAND desktops at a F500 client. The grand total was over SEVENTY THOUSAND applications upgraded. Y2K "didn't live up to the hype" because the industry busted ass to duct tape everything first.

I sentence the yellow paint haters to an eternity of searching for DOOM exits. Hump every wall. (When it comes to "yellow paint in video games" I liked DOOM 2016's green lights)
