🔥 Europe is burning. Yet @eib.org is loaning hundreds of millions of Euros to ENI, an oil major, to convert refineries into biofuels. We wrote to the EIB, explaining why this is a dangerous step that endangers the climate and communities. Read our letter 👇 www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/2026/civil-s...

How can Europe tackle the climate crisis while making everyday life more affordable? 🎙️ In today’s #EUWatchdogRadio episode, Marilisa Marigliano and Frank Vanaerschot from Counter Balance discuss why affordable housing, clean energy and public transport should be at the heart of public investments.
🌍 Europe is facing another energy crisis driven by its dependence on fossil fuels — while millions already struggle with rising costs. Shielding societies from these crises requires stronger public investment tackling decarbonisation and affordability together 👇🧵
The EU and big business want access to lithium, copper, cobalt, and much more. 🌍 But do you know who is bearing the costs of this? Well.. communities, mainly in the Global South, who are rarely given a real say over mining projects on their own land. ⛏️❌
📢 Counter Balance, together with 14 civil society organisations, has sent a joint letter to the @eib.org on the implementation of the second phase of the Climate Bank Roadmap. Here’s what we call for 🧵👇

The @eib.org is about to approve its new Complaints Mechanism Policy. Together with 20 civil society organisations, we reviewed the draft and shared recommendations to strengthen accountability and transparency. 👇 Read more in the joint comments: bankwatch.org/publication/...
The EIB funds massive projects worldwide, and when those projects harm communities, people can file a complaint to its Complaints Mechanism. Its rules are currently being reviewed. Some wins: ✅ More independence ✅ Clearer procedures ✅ Early dispute resolution tool But communities still need more.
After channelling taxpayer money into Paragon spyware, the EIF announced yesterday at the European Parliament it will stop funding non-EU spyware companies. But the new policy does not resolve the main problem — EU-based spyware companies remain eligible for funding. ⚠️💻🔎
The @ec.europa.eu @roxanaminzatu.bsky.social understand workers' income is squeezed We have an economic/ social/ #publicservicesemergency We need measures to go with it End austerity, promote higher wages & pensions Invest in public services @neweconomics.bsky.social @counter-balance.bsky.social
It's great that the EU finally recognised the #PublicServicesEmergency. But if it's an emergency, first stop the #austerity. The #Commission must show that "#emergency" is not a rhetoric; now it's time for action. 📣Suspend the Stability and Growth Pact.

The EP voted for a bigger Global Europe — EUR 225bn. This is the right signal on scale, given rising development needs, deepening fragilities, and the climate challenge. Now the question is what the money is actually for.
