As of now we have received 138 pieces of written testimony. Of that 71 submissions are opposed to the term sheet, 46 in support, with 21 registering support with changes. Lot of nuance in the comments and I’m reading each them, along with verbal testimony.

We’re hearing testimony on the Moda term sheet today. I have filed an amendment that seeks to do two broad things: 1. empower the Joint Authority to limit expenditure public funds in the public interest with transparency and accountability 2. Reduce City’s commitment from $400M -> $120MM

Just want to acknowledge here that while I wasn’t aware of the burn ban, it was still a dumb thing to do and you gotta check these things. Especially me. I didn’t, I own that, and I am really grateful for the responders on Engine 18 who showed up to make sure the situation was under control.

City Councilor Mitch Green Violated Burn Ban by Starting Backyard Brush Fire

Just before 8 pm on July 26, a 911 dispatcher received a call concerning a fire in the backyard of a Southwest Portland home. It was the home of Councilor Mitch Green.

There was all this messaging aimed at millennials when we were kids from elder generations about saving the earth; Captain Planet. the Toxic Crusaders… Now those same people who sold us that shit are like “that’s all fake, get fucked crybaby” as homes burn down & we breath smoke 🙃

Dewayne Hankins asked Blazers fans to show up to Portland City Council tomorrow at 9:30am: "That’s why it’s so important that the City Council hear from you. This is bigger than basketball. It’s about Portland’s future." Ok. How about: "Ask the team to share details so we can make a deal"? Good?

James Kasper was slated to convert the Centennial mills property into some posh nightclub, but apparently regarded the permitting process as being “nightmarish”, and Portland being “anti-business”. Apparently this led Kasper to seek an exit from the deal. A month later, and the building’s burning.

The most insane & disgusting thing to me about America is that our system was built to disenfranchise us. Through the Electoral College, Senate and Supreme Court we the people have never had a real voice in the outcome of our elections. This system of protecting rich white men isn’t working.

@darktildawn.bsky.social · 5d ago

As a voting citizen of the USA for over half a century, the most insane & disgusting thing to me about Americans is the fact that even though national elections can be won by a handful of votes, 70 to 80 million Americans don't bother to vote at all while complaining about how bad our government is.

Federal judges say they are losing faith in the Justice Department’s trustworthiness, legal scholars say. “Judges simply don't believe the representations that are being made by United States attorneys,” one former federal judge said.

Federal Judges Chastise Trump’s Justice Department for “Unlawful,” “Unethical” and “Unseemly” Conduct

ProPublica reviewed hundreds of cases in which judges criticized the actions of federal prosecutors. In many, judges expressed frustration that they can no longer take the government at its word.

The litigation threat from city council struck a nerve with the Blazers franchise. And THAT is precisely why Portland City Council should lean into it. Tom Dundon & the Blazers franchise understand one thing, and one thing only, and that’s the threat of contractual, legal and monetary consequences.

“We need the city to take the prospect of litigation off the table,” a Blazers rep said ahead of a Thursday work session.

I legitimately think the moderates + right wing in Portland are stuck in an ideological bubble after they saw attitudes move *slightly* to the right during COVID and they genuinely have convinced themselves the leftists on city council are a fluke that is about to go away in the Fall elections.

If you’re downtown today for lunch, and you’re undecided, you gotta hit up the farmers market in the park blocks, near PSU. Specifically the Verde Cocina stand. They have the best papas and chorizo. The food is consistently great 🤌🏾💎

Not my district, but c’mon man. I’ll be sending a letter to Parks about this (with a cc to the D3 councilors), but this is one of those moments where in the midst of the many ongoing policy challenges that Portlanders experience that have no near term solution, you don’t add some new pain like this

Just got out from seeing the #Odyssey, and I can’t help but leave with a few thoughts (no spoilers): • This movie was incredible. It was truly a fantastic film, and emotionally charged. • Every actor did amazing in it. • Anyone hating on this film, I truly doubt they actually watched the movie.
