I have my doubts, I suspect UEB wish to be seen to be âstrongâ, whatever that may look like. But I love my Department, colleagues, students, work and ultimately the university itself. I do not want to be on strike, but unfortunately it is necessary. 5/5
Now with the proposal to make 600+ staff redundant I genuinely cannot see how the uni can continue to function. Yet, we as academic staff are the enemy threatened with a 100% pay deduction for MAB. Itâs a very sorry place to be, and I hope negotiations will resolve it quickly. 4/5
Now the creep has become a flood, and some staff have done little but programmes, timetabling and assessments admin since September last year. This takes effort away from teaching and research, but perhaps more importantly - this workload transfer has been invisible. 3/?
⊠workload as well as doing the teaching, researching, impact and outreach that is meant to be the core of our roles. The admin creep has been happening for years, but we just get on with it to ensure the education of our students continue. 2/?
Very sad to be on #UCUstrike action today at #NottinghamUni. A university only functions through goodwill, and academic staff are not the enemies that UEB seem determined to think they are. Since Future Nottingham 1 gutted administrative staff, academic staff have increasingly picked up their 1/?

The dismantling of British education is in full flow. Makes sense. An uneducated, unhealthy & indebted population is too weak to fight back. We must confront this abomination or accept that our future is bleak. @ucu.org.uk @sheffielducu.bsky.social @uonucu.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The collapse of universities will destroy the towns they're in, in the same way that deindustrialisation, pit closures, destroyed entire regions of the UK. In both cases the government project was to inflict poverty on those you believe to be socially illegitimate, who've had it good for too long.

You will have seen these news. This is so sad as it's a great place to work and study at. Lucky to be sheltered from all this, but the atmosphere is grim here.
Thousands of University of Nottingham staff told they are at risk of redundancy
Coincidentally, the number of staff currently at risk of redundancy (2700) at the University of Nottingham is the same as the number of jobs at risk at British Steel. Yesterday, the govt said they aren't neutral on job losses & so pledged to save those steel jobs. Watch as they blithely ignore HE.
2,700 in limbo for months, with more than 600 expected to lose their jobs. Having been at risk of redundancy last year, I canât imagine the impact of so many feeling so insecure and devalued. Cruel and destructive. Solidarity to all.
