I wish I could be the "flavour text guy" for a game studio making a rich RPG (fantasy, scifi, sci-fantasy, who cares!). Just writing funky, weird descriptions for every item, enemy, spell etc. in a big world.

I had an undergrad student once tell me she always submitted to my tutorial group for feedback, as opposed to her own, because (her words) "you're the only one who wants to make sure I understand why I'm falling short, and not just that I am falling short."

A friend recommended I look into writing jobs in the games industry. But every time I open socials there's 50 new posts of "100 game devs ritualistically killed to fuel the great machine."
Just never get into sports betting, gas station heroin, or creative writing, and you'll be fine

Granta publishes an obviously AI story, which is then awarded The Commonwealth Prize. Meanwhile, Olga Tokarczuk gives an interview about how she uses AI to bounce ideas off & explore story development. It's all just circling the drain and feels futile to care 😪

I'm already sick of "It's all a distraction from Epstein" replies. This regime is killing innocent people because our leaders are all power-hungry tyrants and war profiteers. When you say it's "just a distraction" you minimize the gravity of what's happening and the lives lost.
I see a lot of people arguing we don't need more Evangelion. But a series where the last 3 endings all stress the importance of letting go of the past & moving on, coming back for another series, is a very good bit.
