Hey, scam that almost got me this morning — A series of texts basically identical to ones Amazon has previously sent when something was recalled. It was early for my second-shift ass, so I clicked as far as the link (no information was entered). Phone number was spoofed, but the URL was weird.
Unbelievably, today's the fifth anniversary of my mom's death. Jane Pak LOVED public schools, student journalism, and libraries. If you feel like doing a little something in her honor, look up your local friends of the public library group and throw 'em a few bucks. gregpak.com/jane-pak-bel...

Received this email today. As of Sept. 4, you have to use AI instead of Google Assistant. All I ever really used it for was to set alarms by voice, so not a big loss for me. Still, another example of how they're trying to force AI into everything we do so they can justify their huge expenses.

In South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi as well as western Tennessee the green counties are some of the poorest and also some of the Blackest in the nation. So I have questions about declaring them irredeemable. Anyway here's a map showing %age Black ppl by county in 2020
Wisconsin continues to ASTOUND me (Those 🟢 areas are universally irredeemable btw)
One of the founders of the law firm with the new $150M contract is a former Trump EPA/Interior appointee. Another founding partner is currently in the Trump admin. The govt's goal is to deport as many immigrant children as quickly as possible & this is the firm they hired to "defend" those kids.
Houston law firm set to receive $150M contract to represent unaccompanied migrant children
The law firm is set to receive a multimillion-dollar contract to represent unaccompanied migrant children in government custody during immigration proceedings.

The govt has fired *all* the immigration attorneys representing detained children and given a $150 million contract to a 26-employee law firm in Texas with ONE immigration attorney. @theyoungcenter.bsky.social's Child Advocates are now the last line of defense for kids in deportation hearings.
Wanna help? Become a Waymaker! We're running, walking, cycling 20,000 miles in September to raise money to get immigrant kids out of detention and back with family. Someone who kayaks to work is dedicating his miles to Waymakers! A salsa dance class is counting steps! It all counts! #BeAWaymaker

I'm having a great deal of sympathy for @kbspangler.com as I converse with my less-than-online Mom. Mom: "I was reading about fires in OR, too" me: *shows Mom watchduty.org * "everything is on fire." Mom: "Spokane was arson? Who / why....?" me: *shows Mom polymarket* "Hellscape capitalism"
Things that have been said to me this week, AGAIN: "Wizards of the Coast doesn't reprint the Reserved List because they're greedy and want us to keep paying too much for luxury vintage cardboard." Which...no.

My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.
The Morning Monty is comfy, and he doesn’t care if you think it’s weird.

Recently read a skeet on here that was like "It's theorized men are more vulnerable to LLMs/chatbots because women are more thoroughly socially conditioned to be instantly suspicious of fawning, complimentary, compliant attention," and. Thinkin' about that, tonight. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtvI...

I don’t know how to explain to people under 30 how scary AIDS was for a long time.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
Pictures from the 1970s where there’s kind of brownish hazy tint aren’t because of film degradation or something photographic artifacts, that’s what things looked like before the Clean Air Act. The air used to be filthy, which is why we needed to clean it. And then we did!

No Smoking Laws I don’t know how to express to people who didn’t live thru it: there used to be cigarette smoke EVERYWHERE… in restaurants, planes, hotels, SCHOOLS, doctors’ offices. Everywhere. I have asthma and had bronchitis multiple times a year. I’m so grateful for those laws.

Cars are so much better. They're so much more durable, they get vastly better gas mileage, and most of all, they are SO MUCH SAFER.

On my list of "things I didn't realize I was holding my breath about".
NEW: Voters have rejected Republicans' scheme to unseat the Kansas Supreme Court's Dem-appointed majority and overturn abortion rights. Amendment 1 would have let the GOP replace the system of a nominating commission, gubernatorial appointment, and retention elections with direct partisan elections
I find myself burning with incandescent rage at the way all the civics and constitutional rules and laws I learned my whole life are actually just suggestions if the ppl in congress have a deficiency in courage "A gentleman's agreement only works if the ppl involved are gentlemen "
me going thru it: i should get another fountain pen to wirte my feelings with thats a great idea!!
This feels like a huge story that I suspect will just be another story everyone breezes past because everything is a huge story But also, holy shit
