This is devastatingly correct for where I grew up. People left behind by every stratum of politics (but especially town and county/parish) pushing all their energy into surviving a broken, immiserated existence. Politics is a luxury for politicized bodies.

This! 1000% this! The only way we make it through any of this is to find common ground and see the good in those that have been conditioned to work against their own interests. Helping everyone means EVERYONE.

Limiting your empathy to only the queer and POC living in the rural South is just a different version of that "get rid of Texas and Florida" bullshit.
