I'm receiving briefings regarding the ongoing response to the tragedy at the Seattle Center. The Washington State Patrol SWAT team is on the way to assist, at the request of the Seattle Police Department.
This is super fucked. Fuck guns and fuck the 2nd amendment I will say that incidents like this are *exactly* why surveillance in public spaces is appropriate. And yes, you need armed law enforcement.

If you go to Madrid and check out the old central part of the city, it’s incredible what they have accomplished with single lanes and proper bollard placement. You get an environment that is both, amazingly, pedestrian and car friendly.

A little concerned that the thing that’s exciting the activist left in Seattle is… public surveillance cameras. The speaker here, who gave a thoughtful speech (this is a smaller clip of only part) gives two examples where footage was withheld. Wasn’t it better for it to exist in the first place?

Our Seattle held a rally to demand that Mayor Katie Wilson remove CCTV cameras that were installed in the Stadium District ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
