Ok this is way over the line to hyperbole. It's expended a bunch of exquisite, high end munitions that are key specific scenarios. It's far from "demilitarized." The reason Iran is only doing stand-off strikes is because that's all they can do.

Donald Trump stands out historically in one way. He has demilitarized the US military more quickly than any other political leader in US history. A full blown pacifist would have struggled to throw away weapons faster than he has.

OK but MacArthur was only in charge during the disasterclass defense of the Philippines because Marshall put him there and then protected him from a corruption investigation after Eisenhower found out about MacArthur embezzling funds. MacArthur was horrible but only because Marshall protected him.

Continuing my Korean War/Halberstam posting: It’s hard to convey how malignant Douglas MacArthur was, how anti-democratic, what a persistent threat to civil-military relations. Conversely, George Marshall was a man of towering integrity and wisdom.

If Baseball Is Ruined, Show Me The Ruins "It is both borderline incomprehensible and self-evidently true that other teams...did not outbid the Dodgers' winning offer...It is equally strange that the Detroit Tigers did not shop more rigorously around the league for a higher return."

The dodgers have like $2 billion in committed contracts. Maybe 1 of the 10 central division teams has a revenue stream that could command a $500 million dollar commitment. You’re right, they can run their organization any way they want. Their rotation is now made up of former aces they’ve acquired.

Based on MLB Pipeline rankings, the Dodgers gave up only their 5th, 7th, and 17th best prospects for Skubal. Plus, they'll pay him roughly $11 million. Other teams were gutless, that's all it is.

"The German generals of WWII were some of the best..." They lost. "The noble soldiers of the Confederacy were..." They also lost. "The Spartans..." Dude they lost so bad their city spent the rest of it's existence as a Roman tourist trap.
