I got into this a bit in my column last week but I think social platforms' extreme push toward sales, slop and outrage has done a lot to degrade people's attitudes toward tech, even if they're still using them and still buying. People feeling compelled to do things that feel bad breeds resentment!

We shouldn't discount the fact that at least part of the data center backlash (and by extension the broader techlash) is because people feel like the tech industry has not given them anything cool, inspiring, beautiful, or useful in a long time

I don't have children. I don't *want* children. But I don't understand hating children. Also, every time I see a post about how children shouldn't be in public because they are loud or disruptive, I hear that *I* shouldn't be allowed in public, because my disability is also loud and disruptive.

"This might be unpopular but I'd like to discriminate against an entire class of people" If this is you, I hope the next 500 books you try to read are a disappointment.

maybe this is unpopular but I'd love libraries that kids aren't allowed in. truly don't want to be interrupted by running, crying, & yelling while i'm working/reading.

I didn’t know until my third spaniel that there is such a thing as a spaniel bowl to keep their ears dry for wet food and water so they stay cleaner and get fewer ear infections! If only I’d known before. I haven’t gotten one yet but I’m using water glasses and small bowls. Game changing!

I’m troubled by how intensely social media raged about a frightened child (under 5) who couldn’t or wouldn’t be buckled in and caused a flight cancellation. The people who called for outright child abuse, & insisted that the answer was duct tape if not worse made me think the internet was a mistake

Wait a second! Are you telling me a toddler was immensely scared of flying and was trying to hide under his seat? You mean this kid wasn't an unruly brat? (Of course this didn't stop every parent from threatening physical abuse to the child and strapping them into the seat against their will 🙄)

A passenger aboard the Porter Airlines flight to Toronto that was cancelled last week after a toddler refused to buckle up says the child was scared and should not be blamed. https://cheknews.ca/child-who-prompted-porter-airline-flight-cancellation-not-at-fault-passenger-says-1341165/
