I’ve had a few recent moments when something egregious happens and I think to myself, “I can see how this would make someone quit” and “it would be much easier to pretend this didn’t happen”. I didn’t make it this far to do either of those things.

On Thursday April 23rd, I will be talking about how I am using neurons of the spinal cord of zebrafish to understand the development of the nervous system. Old and new technologies combined to dissect the emergence of patterns in a population of cells! 🐟🧪

The two speakers are myself, Joaquin Navajas Acedo (title Spatiotemporal emergence of somatosensory neuron diversity in zebrafish) and Ece Atayeter (PhD student in UT Austin; title Cilia.io: a machine learning approach reveal spatial patterns of cilia beating dynamics). There's a bunch of logos and a couple of QR codes you can scan to get to the registration link.

My cup is so full after spending last week at the Keystone Meeting on Hematopoiesis. Time with cutting-edge science, supportive mentors & colleagues, and getting to share this with members of my lab was priceless. Excited to bring new ideas back to the lab - blood rules! ♥️🩸

Not every mentor is for every person. I always tell grad students to listen to what folks in the lab say about a mentor, but it’s okay to also see it for yourself in a rotation. It’s about the match - finding the person who can meet your needs (which are unique!).
