Actor. Bibliophile. Feminist. Nerd. Author of the memoir Revenge of the Nerd, once available from St. Martin's Press. A fop by day. But after dark, I ride.
Me, earlier today during my annual checkup.
Interesting encounter last evening in my local pub: Guy: Hey!! You're Gilbert Gottfried!! Me: Man, Gilbert Gottfried is dead. Guy: Well, yeah, he's dead, but you look just like him!! 🙄💔
A lot of fantastic artists and writers worked on this entirely human-generated show, based on a human-written book. We’re into humanity! Also fairytale characters who have rich and complicated lives in New York’s Hudson River Valley.

Whenever I listen to Springsteen's "Born to Run" I think, wow, that was my life when I was young; the death traps, the suicide raps; riding suicide machines. Then I remember what my youth was actually like: reading Sherlock Holmes, listening to the Beatles, and failing my drivers ed class 3 times.
Joseph Mitchell's essay collection Up In The Old Hotel. On a very short list of the greatest New York books ever written, IMHO. "Saloon-keepers, street preachers, steel-walking Mohawks, a bearded lady" and more. Read it twice through the year I bought it and it's calling to me back for a third!.
What's a book you love with all your goddamn heart that you believe did NOT get the love and attention it's due? I'll go first, and it's abso-LUT-ely THE CITY IN GLASS by Nghi Vo. There are moments from that book that live in my blood and wake me from the dark.
So excited that copies of Strip Club Heiress, my true crime memoir, are ready to order at BookSoup.com! Link in bio 🙌 We sold out at Book Soup the night of my signing (!!), and more copies are on the way. Thank you again to everyone who came out and made the night so special! 💕📚
I haven't cooked for myself in months, so tonight I buckled down and made myself dinner from scratch, and it was just awful!

Biologists examining the DNA of wild cats found that the "tiger cat" group is actually five species instead of one. This study describes the first new cat identified in more than a century (Leopardus tilcayo) as well as a new subspecies (Leopardus tigrinus antisuyo)! 🧪 www.cell.com/current-biol...
Congress can’t indict people. They can have hearings and impeachment trials. But not criminal trials. Please don’t expect criminal trials and then blame democrats when you don’t get them. Midterms are step one. We have to win in 2028 and add seats to SCOTUS to hold people criminally accountable.

How can they justify leaving right now? Diesel costs just hit an all-time high. Our nation is at war. The bond market is quivering. The urgency of AI regulation has come to a critical moment. Congress should be working overtime. Instead Speaker Johnson sent them home.
I just finished reading Louise Blight's wonderful Where the Earth Meets the Sky: A Story of Penguins, People and Place in Antarctica, but my penguin hunger is never sated! This'll be next up!
Is this the most perfect book? I think it might be the most perfect book.
Really looking forward to this one! 👇
with duties as juror for the 2026 National Book Award for Nonfiction largely complete (Longlist announced next week!), I'm excited to devour this manuscript of SNOWBLIND by @andreapitzer.bsky.social (2027). Fans of Arctic exploration catastrophe rejoice - the 1912 Brusilov Expedition is a doozy ⛵️❄️💀
Vote early. Election Day is the end of the election, not the beginning. With everything this regime is going to do to suppress our votes, it’s imperative that we leave plenty of time to correct any issues.
🚨 OCTOBER 17 — NO KINGS: VOTE EARLY! With our democracy at stake, we're showing up again to promote unprecedented voter participation in the midterms. Our goal is to translate the historic protest power of No Kings mobilizations into a massive wave of voter turnout.
Mine was in London in the 1970's when I was a voucher clerk at an advertising agency called Bell, Chesney and Prtnrs., Ltd. The day Nixon resigned, they took me to a pub and then gave me the rest of the day off. I worked there a whole summer but never really understood what a voucher clerk was.
Happy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."
I saw Coyote Vs. Acme today and I haven't enjoyed a movie that much since Barbie. (To date, I've seen Barbie 5 times, 3 of those in a theatre). My next viewing of Coyote Vs. Acme will be this weekend and I imagine it won't be my last. Don't miss it!

Gloria Steinem. She changed me. She changed the way I saw myself. That inner powerful voice of speaking up and speaking out and not taking “no” for an answer.
We must win the midterms if we want to expand the court and hold these fascists accountable. That’s why we’re kicking off the Blue Wave Nation impact fund today: direct support for democrats in flippable districts. Please share widely! #BlueWaveIn60Days secure.actblue.com/donate/mswbl...

I met her through my involvement with the Feminist Majority’s pro-choice Clinic Defense Alliance but she had changed my way of thinking years before that. This was the night I introduced her to my daughter, Lily. REST IN POWER, Gloria Steinem!

This Summer is on the verge of overstaying its welcome.
Immediately went out to get this issue of The New Yorker. Stopped at 7 different places: Pharmacies, news stands, bookstores. None of them carry the New Yorker. I live in New York and I couldn't find a copy of The New Yorker. 😂 P.S. Just found a place that sells The New Yorker! Sold out.
Here's Eric Lach in @newyorker.com with a review of Philip Lopate's "A Washington Irving Sketch Book" that's more biographical book report than book review, but still fun. Oh, and while Lopate in his books refused to take a stance on whether Irving was gay or not . . . in my 2008 bio, I didn't.
Costco runs it's own rigorous food inspection program. And they didn't bend the knee on DEI. Plus, they dropped Callaway Golf after their horrific ad depicting violence against women. And they are refusing to carry trump meat. So that's where I'll be shopping.
