32.3ºC at Kew Gardens is the hottest May temperature on record at the station since records began in 1881, beating its previous May maximum by 2ºC (30.3ºC, 25th May 1922). It beat its maximum temperature date record for the 24th of May by OVER 2ºC (30.2ºC, 1922), exceptional.

Spaghetti chart showing Kew and Kew Gardens May daily maximum temperatures from 1881 to 2026. 144 years of May temperatures are shown as thin grey lines, forming a band broadly between 10°C and 30°C throughout the month. The 2026 line is highlighted in bold red and rises sharply to 32.3°C on 24 May. Two dashed reference lines mark the previous May record of 30.3°C set on 25 May 1922, and the previous 24 May date record of 30.2°C also set in 1922. The 2026 value exceeds both by more than 2°C.

I am thrilled to co‑organise Visualising Climate with colleagues from Copernicus/ECMWF, BSC, BC3 and the University of Miami—the first global conference at the intersection of climate change and data visualisation, at a moment when clear, actionable communication is essential. #dataviz #datavis

Join us in Bologna, Italy, 4–6 Nov 2026 for Visualising Climate — the first global conference fully dedicated to climate data visualization and its power to transform public understanding of a changing planet. Come see the data. visualisingclimate.org #VisualisingClimate2026 #DataVis #ClimateCrisis

This week, I explore B Corps doing good and the toll of seasonal waste.
