In her latest column, APS President @umpamdk.bsky.social asks: Is interdisciplinary science worth it?
I consider myself an interdisciplinary scientist. A post on LinkedIn challenged the idea that we should mentor our students to be more interdisciplinary. Here are my thoughts on what that means in my new APS Presidential column. www.psychologicalscience.org/publications...

“When the Knicks won the NBA Cup this season, Brunson devised a plan to make sure that the peripheral people in the Knicks organization—medical staff, locker-room attendants, etc.—received a portion of the money that the players get for winning the in-season tournament. This is who Brunson is.” 🎁
Jalen Brunson, NBA champion and finals MVP, is officially the greatest Knick ever (Gift Article)
Jalen Brunson has placed New York back on top of the basketball world, where it belongs.

“It is different because New York’s mass unifying events tend to imply unbearable tragedy: 9/11, Sandy, Covid. Maybe the disorientation of this championship run was that shared experiences in the city were allowed to be good, gleeful, uncomplicated.“
Gotta read this. So good.

Another handful of sand in the gears: Researchers cannot serve on a panel *at all* if anyone from their institution has submitted to that panel. Recusing themselves for the proposal itself is no longer sufficient. This is needless, but will certainly slow things up even further.

Excited to share that I'll be giving a keynote at IMBES in September. The talk asks a simple question: Are we measuring children's cognition, or the interaction between cognition and context? Looking forward to sharing (and hopefully generating discussion) in San Diego.
We are grateful to announce that Dr. Dana Miller-Cotto will be presenting a keynote address entitled "The Context of Cognition: Educational Environments and Children's Thinking" at our upcoming meeting this September. #IMBES2026

This is sad and shocking news - Raúl always worked tirelessly to help early career researchers navigate the complexities of academia, and was a generous and selfless advocate for stronger standards in pedagogy and higher education access. We need more Raúls in academia. Sincere condolences

One year later - my reflections on what's happened to US science since the National Science Foundation grant terminations last year. The problem of misinformation isn't going away, but our ability to study and understand it is under attack. 1/ 🧪 www.tennessean.com/story/opinio...
