Senior Labour politicians will insist they are driven by pragmatism and cold electoral calculus in their messaging and then generate a load of headlines about how they're going to take money away from pensioners.

The idea that women are given special rights based on sex is a remarkably absurd framing and not how discrimination protections actually work in practice. It can only stem from a thoroughly right-wing understanding of the world that believes marginalized people are granted extra entitlements.
