Millions of people have an absolutely insane concept of “critical thinking” that means “making a fully independent judgment on complex questions you are, if you’re at all honest with yourself, comically incompetent to evaluate & demand years of specialized training.”

I'm a full Professor of Immunology and fully vaccinated. I didn't get vaccinated out of obedience, but after decades of studying the immune system and evaluating all evidence. Calling that "lack of critical thinking" is not an argument. It's ideology masked as pretend intellect.

The media is desperate to find some reason why Elon Musk's politics are complicated or more sophisticated than they seem, because the simple truth is too ugly for them to admit - an actual Nazi is the world's wealthiest person, and his companies hold substantial American government contracts.

Politicians and pundits giving up human rights of some "in order to win" is like players scoring on their own goal "in order to win." Yes, you're scoring. You've also forgotten the game, and why you're playing, and what winning even is, and you have to be benched in favor of people who remember.

I will not negotiate away anybody’s human rights and I will oppose any politician who thinks that is an ok stance. I don’t care what party. If you’re going to support democrats who oppose transgender humanity the entire thing isn’t worth fighting for. The line must be drawn.

For those who don’t follow sports and haven’t really had the opportunity to get to know Canada men’s national football team head coach Jesse Marsch, he is probably one of the few Americans who addressed the insulting “51st state” rhetoric head-on since day one. ❤️🍁🇨🇦TEAM CANADA FOREVER🇨🇦🍁❤️ 1/3 🧵

I sure hope to see the day Musk receives legal punishment proportional with the extent of his murders and damage, done directly to people, and to the political discours, which caused indirect damage to so many as well. Whatever that might look like..

Elon Musk should be mentioned in the same breath as Leopold and Hitler and any other mass-murdering human monster; he should be equated in the public mind with "genocidal racist mass murderer" and little else. And he should be brought to justice for those crimes.

Not AI. Penguin Random House created an unburnable copy of the Handmaid's Tale. Printed on fire-resistant paper and bound with a flame retardant cover, the book was auctioned off. The still is from the promotional video where Atwood took a flamethrower to it. Fuck Gilead. #booksky

Thread on how the Conservatives are weaponizing "diversity" to undermine and break down Higher Education

Thomas Zimmer@thomaszimmer.bsky.social · 2mo ago

“Viewpoint diversity” is a trap For @table.media, I wrote about the Yale report on “Trust in Higher Education” – and why we will not be able to defend academic freedom by accepting the terms set by a rightwing campaign intended to impose reactionary rule. Some thoughts, since it is in German:

There was a quote that said something like Black people worship a Jesus who knows what it's like to be lynched, while white people worship a Jesus who will forgive them for being part of a lynch mob.

Like all of Moxon's essays, this one helps me crystalize my own thinking about a thorny concept. Much as I admire his writing, it's his clarity of thought and determination to drill down into ideas that I'm most envious of.

There came a day when the great emperor fell ill with fever, and none of his doctors could revive him. Now the call went out across the empire, promising great reward for any who could find a cure. www.the-reframe.com/one-thing-yo...
