Don't forget. Don't mess it up. Crow Country is pretty great, more people should visit this absolutely not haunted abandoned theme park.

BOURDAIN (voiceover): I found myself surrounded by discarded objects. An empty soda can, a dead battery. Life becomes death. But death can become life. The simmering pot with its spicy aroma in front of me is proof. BOURDAIN: What's in this dish? ME: Pikmin BOURDAIN: Pikmin. Oh man that's good.
"AI is the asbestos we're shovelling into the walls of our technological society. Our descendants will spend generations digging it out again, and the longer the bubble goes on without popping, the longer it will take to repair the damage." Good lord [positive]
Cory Doctorow: The people who tell you ‘AI is changing everything’ are lying
It has become impossible to tell managers mesmerised by artificial intelligence that the tools are not, in fact, helpful. So employees just play along with the fiction to keep their jobs, writes our t...

We are going to spend the next 20 years discovering and dealing with the mental health effects of over-reliance on AI.
I'm getting that urge again. That urge to create, but the question then becomes "create what?" Maybe I really should start writing a book or something...
>have the words "Militantly Anti-GenAI" in my bio >post in a way that in no way signals any support from me with regards to AI >gets a new follower that's basically AI slop

The good thing about having a brush pen is it means I don't end up stabbing myself with something sharp and pointy when I try to put the cap back on.
spent like 35 minutes cutting this out frame by frame, here is my public service done for the day: files.catbox.moe/45cyy1.gif
The nerve. The audacity. The absolute temerity of Sony to pull this shit. Sony want to take away your physical games away, yet will gladly sell you a turntable for your vinyl records. This is just beyond the pale.
The internal conversations before posting this must have been hilarious
Bestselling (and one of my favorites...) mystery author Higashino Keigo has died at 68 from colon cancer. RIP, and thank you for the stories.

So I'm reading a book right now. It mentions the 'koto', a Japanese zither. The footnotes refer to it as a 'harp'. It also referred to the game of go as "a kind of checkers". Who's responsible for this...?
palmer luckey gotta be the easiest billionaire to actually annoy on a deeply personal level
On that sort of note, I got back into reading books a few years ago because I'd heard about the Denis Villeneuve adaptation of 'Dune', watched the David Lynch one, and went 'yeah, I'm gonna look into this'. Adaptations of source media can be a way into exploring said source media.
Some academics turn up their noses at movie adaptations or popular history books, but I call them "gateway drugs" into deeper scholarship. How many of us fell in love with history because a movie (or book) sparked our curiosity first? For me, it was Amadeus - it sent me down an 18thC rabbit hole.
Is Yukari even hated at this point? I'm out of touch with the current Persona fandom, but I know a lot of folks didn't vibe with her at all.

This survey is absolutely slanted dogshit. Work your way through the initial questions and give them hell in the part where you can actually give comment. Canada should be spending money to support human workers and human-made work.
Canadian arts and culture folks: the federal government has launched a (methodologically flawed) survey on "the Cultural Sector's readiness for Artificial Intelligence". If you're ready to resist or refuse genAI, here's your chance to let them know. pch.research-recherche.ca/f/s.aspx?lan...
Yep. Science SARU cooked for the new Ghost in the Shell. Three episodes so far and they've all been bangers.
