Some things I think about often: community care & mental health, justice, books & libraries, space, the way we tell our stories, equity, trees, music, rocks, the impact of Christian nationalism/evangelicalism, authenticity & sincerity, joy. 📚✨🌒🔭🌲🌳🍁🪴🎵🧠🏳️🌈

ICE has killed another person, this time by depriving him of life-sustaining medication for a known medical condition. Jesus Manuel Arenas-Silva was detained on Thursday. He was dead by Monday. Per @detentionwatchnetwork.org:
NEVER FORGET the debt we all owe to the Miccosukee Tribe, without whom it would still be open. And never forget that Indigenous sovereignty and all our safety and flourishing are forever intertwined.

After a cost of more than $1 billion, the Everglades concentration camp has been removed from the airstrip where it once stood.
This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Trump is now using his platform to attack kindergarteners because they are Muslim
Wild to me that they have more to say about people on the left who are trying to make things better than the actual people destroying things. Just constantly proving how broken their priorities are. It's "big tent" with fascists but "parasites" with anyone left of center.
Calling a Jewish dude a "parasite," don't love that
Learning from people who love things and overflow with joy about those things is one of my favorite parts of being human!

Absolutely brutal thread. "A.i." in education is a fucking plague and anyone who pushes it on professors and students is betraying education itself. An act of abuse and betrayal to push this fucking cheating, lying, bullshit machine on anyone, ESPECIALLY in an educational environment.
At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/
"We all want the good parts of community: the free support, the love, the name on our emergency contact. But it comes at a cost that’s not at all romantic or fun but very necessary. So I’m choosing to be a villager, and I’m enjoying it. Most of the time." A very good essay and very true.

Trans people have been around your whole life. You’ve been sharing bathrooms with them your whole life. They’ve been in your communities your whole life. They’ve even been playing sport your whole life. And you didn’t care *at all* till a few years ago when every right wing org decided you should
This whole thread. We already did the "okay, back to 4 years of business-as-usual" without fixing all of what got us the first 4 Trump years, and look where that left us.
I'm seeing people post things like "things would be boring if Harris were president" and look, it would be much better if Trump weren't president, but posts like that are telling people that we are not in the fight of our lives, and that the end goal is complacency. That is how we got here.
100% this. AI is a deskilling project. To use it is to embrace your own uselessness.
I see no lies here

this is a huge deal and a sign of the changing legal tides for big tech. the plaintiffs attorneys here were early adopters of a novel legal strategy that uses product liability law to sidestep tech companies' go-to defense (section 230) and hold them accountable for defective or negligent design
Meta and YouTube were both found liable by a California jury for harming a plaintiff's mental health with the design of their products. A massive ruling in a bellwether case that will open the floodgates for other lawsuits
Thread. I'm begging people to realize how much we've already given in just the past 25 years. I'm old enough to remember when surveillance wasn't ubiquitous and before ICE or the TSA existed. There was even a time when the average cop wasn't kitted out for full on urban warfare.
Today it's the airports, but soon ICE will be omnipresent in our lives unless they are stopped. Public spaces. The polling place. You name it. This is textbook authoritarianism and as long as the corruption of liberal democracy continues there will be more and more power vacuums for the fascists.
Entire decades later and I still catch myself singing "healthy foods taste so good." Often.

This (and the rest of the thread) is such a clear way of describing the experience. I tried using a similar program a while back now so I could try to form my own opinions about it and it was deeply uncomfortable and left me feeling frustrated and disconnected.
The hallucination alone is a dealbreaker, obviously. But I was much more disturbed by the effect it had on my own sense of communication. Words are for connection. If you continually threw a rope into the darkness and no one caught it, you'd begin to think there was something wrong with the rope.
Today marks 14 years since 17-year-old, unarmed Trayvon Martin was shot and killed while walking home. 14 years later, we’re still demanding a country where our children can walk home in peace — without being treated like a threat.
